Agile Web Development with Rails 4 - PDF Free Download - Fox eBook | IT Books Free Share |
Agile Web Development with Rails 4 PDF Download, Reviews, Read Online, ISBN: 1937785564, By Dave Thomas, David Heinemeier Hansson, Sam Ruby
Fox eBook's insight:

Rails just keeps on changing. Both Rails 3 and 4, as well as Ruby 1.9 and 2.0, bring hundreds of improvements, including new APIs and substantial performance enhancements. The fourth edition of this award-winning classic has been reorganized and refocused so it’s more useful than ever before for developers new to Ruby and Rails.

Rails 4 introduces a number of user-facing changes, and the ebook has been updated to match all the latest changes and new best practices in Rails. This includes full support for Ruby 2.0, controller concerns, Russian Doll caching, strong parameters, Turbolinks, new test and bin directory layouts, and much more.

Ruby on Rails helps you produce high-quality, beautiful-looking web applications quickly. You concentrate on creating the application, and Rails takes care of the details.

Tens of thousands of developers have used this award-winning book to learn Rails. It’s a broad, far-reaching tutorial and reference that’s recommended by the Rails core team. If you’re new to Rails, you’ll get step-by-step guidance. If you’re an experienced developer, this book will give you the comprehensive, insiderinformation you need.

Rails has evolved over the years, and this book has evolved along with it. We still start with a step-by-step walkthrough of building a real application, and in-depth chapters look at the built-in Rails features. This edition now gives new Ruby and Rails users more information on the Ruby language and takes more time to explain key concepts throughout. Best practices on how to apply Rails continue to change, and this edition keeps up. Examples use Concerns, Russian Doll caching, and Turbolinks, and the book focuses throughout on the right way to use Rails. Additionally, this edition now works on Ruby 2.0, a new release of Ruby with substantial functional and performance improvements.

This edition is for Rails4.0 and beyond.

The Coding Dojo Handbook - PDF Free Download - Fox eBook

The Coding Dojo Handbook - PDF Free Download - Fox eBook | IT Books Free Share |
The Coding Dojo Handbook PDF Download, Reviews, Read Online, ISBN: , By Emily Bache
Fox eBook's insight:

This book is full of practical advice and ideas for practicing skills such as test-driven development, refactoring, and pair programming. Perhaps you’re a team lead, and you’d like to promote good practices among your team colleagues. Maybe you lead a programming language user group and you’re looking for a fun hands-on activity to do at meetings, or are planning a brown bag lunch series at work. This book gives you all the advice you need to get your own group started.

Included is a catalogue of “Kata” coding exercises that you can try, and advice about how to choose one for your particular situation. You’ll learn various collaborative coding games, which can be a fun way to introduce a serious discussion about software design or development processes. Test-driven development is one of the key skills you’ll want to practice in the Coding Dojo, so there’s also a straightforward description of TDD you can use to explain it. Throughout the book are little “Dojo Disaster” anecdotes. They illustrate when things have gone less than perfectly, and how you can avoid such mistakes.

A dojo is a fun and rewarding activity for any bunch of coders!

What you need

The book is fairly agnostic about which programming language you’ll be using in your Coding Dojo. The “Kata” exercises sometimes have a small amount of code to get you started, and you can generally choose from several languages, including Java, C#, Javascript, Ruby and Python.

You’ll need a room to hold your Coding Dojo in, and most companies will have a suitable meeting room already. It just needs enough chairs and tables for everyone, a whiteboard, projector, and at least onecomputer. Often, you’ll want one computer for every two people, and internet access.

Table of Contents

Section 1: Collaborative Games for Programmers
Section 2: Organizing a Coding Dojo
Section 3: Teaching & Learning In the Dojo
Section 4: Kata Catalogue

Intermediate Accounting, 7th Edition PDF Download, Reviews, Read Online, ISBN: 0077647092, By J. David Spiceland, James Sepe, Mark Nelson
Fox eBook's insight:

Financial accounting is undergoing a period of unprecedented change. The FASB and IASB have been working together to issue converged accounting standards that will dramatically change key reportingareas, and more generally have sought to converge accounting standards over time. In late 2011, the SEC will announce its decision on whether large public companies in the U.S. will be able to choose whether to report under U.S. GAAP or IFRS or if all companies are anticipated to be reporting under IFRS in the near future. So, while there currently is considerable overlap between U.S. GAAP and IFRS, and that overlap is increasing as convergence continues, important differences remain.

To help instructors deal with the challenging environment, the Spiceland team is committed to providing current, comprehensive and clear coverage of intermediate accounting. Intermediate Accounting, 7th Edition reflects this commitment with the following innovations.

Programming Erlang, 2nd Edition - PDF Free Download - Fox eBook | IT Books Free Share |
Programming Erlang, 2nd Edition PDF Download, Reviews, Read Online, ISBN: 193778553X, By Joe Armstrong
Fox eBook's insight:

A multi-user game, web site, cloud application, or networked database can have thousands of users all interacting at the same time. You need a powerful, industrial-strength tool to handle the really hard problems inherent in parallel, concurrent environments. You need Erlang. In this second edition of the bestsellingProgramming Erlang, you’ll learn how to write parallel programs that scale effortlessly on multicore systems.

Using Erlang, you’ll be surprised at how easy it becomes to deal with parallel problems, and how much faster and more efficiently your programs run. That’s because Erlang uses sets of parallel processes-not a single sequential process, as found in most programming languages.

Joe Armstrong, creator of Erlang, introduces this powerful language in small steps, giving you a complete overview of Erlang and how to use it in common scenarios. You’ll start with sequential programming, move to parallel programming and handling errors in parallel programs, and learn to work confidently with distributed programming and the standard Erlang/Open Telecom Platform (OTP) frameworks.

You need no previous knowledge of functional or parallel programming. The chapters are packed with hands-on, real-world tutorial examples and insider tips and advice, and finish with exercises for both beginning and advanced users.

The second edition has been extensively rewritten. New to this edition are seven chapters covering the latest Erlang features: maps, the type system and the Dialyzer, WebSockets, programming idioms, and a new stand-alone execution environment. You’ll write programs that dynamically detect and correct errors, and that can be upgraded without stopping the system. There’s also coverage of rebar (the de facto Erlang build system), and information on how to share and use Erlang projects on github, illustrated with examples from cowboy and bitcask.

Erlang will change your view of the world, and of how you program.

Fox eBook's insight:

Today’s digital cameras continue to produce increasingly higher definition image data files, making high resolution, large-format output possible. As printing technology moves forward at an equally fast pace, the new inkjet printers are capable of printing with great precision at a very fine resolution, providing an amazing tonal range and significantly superior image permanence at a more affordable price. In the hands of knowledgeable photographers, these printers are able to produce prints that are comparable to the highest quality darkroom prints on fine art paper.

The third edition of this best-selling book provides the necessary foundation for successful fine art printing: the understanding of color management, profiling, paper, and inks. It offers advice on selecting an appropriate printer for long-lasting fine art prints, demonstrates how to set up the printing workflow and select a suitable paper for your subject, and guides you step-by-step through the process of converting an image file to an outstanding fine art print.

Data Communications and Networking, 5th Edition - PDF Free Download - Fox eBook

Data Communications and Networking, 5th Edition - PDF Free Download - Fox eBook | IT Books Free Share |
Data Communications and Networking, 5th Edition PDF Download, Reviews, Read Online, ISBN: 0073376221, By Behrouz Forouzan
Fox eBook's insight:

Data Communications and Networking, 5th Edition is designed to help students understand the basics of data communications and networking, and the protocols used in the Internet in particular by using the protocol layering of the Internet and TCP/IP protocol suite. Technologies related to data communicationand networking may be the fastest growing in today’s culture. The appearance of some new social networking applications is a testimony to this claim. In this Internet-oriented society, specialists need to be trained to run and manage the Internet, part of the Internet, or an organization’s network that is connected to the Internet. As both the number and types of students are increasing, it is essential to have a textbook that provides coverage of the latest advances, while presenting the material in a way that is accessible to students with little or no background in the field.

Using a bottom-up approach, Data Communications and Networking presents this highly technical subject matter without relying on complex formulas by using a strong pedagogical approach supported by more than 830 figures. Now in its Fifth Edition, this textbook brings the beginning student right to the forefront of the latest advances in the field, while presenting the fundamentals in a clear, straightforward manner. Students will find better coverage, improved figures and better explanations on cutting-edge material. The “bottom-up” approach allows instructors to cover the material in one course, rather than having separate courses on data communications and networking.

Network Attacks and Defenses: A Hands-on Approach PDF Download, Reviews, Read Online, ISBN: 1466517948, By Arwa Al Braiki, Kadhim Hayawi, Sujith Samuel Mathew, Zouheir Trabelsi
Fox eBook's insight:

The attacks on computers and business networks are growing daily, and the need for securityprofessionals who understand how malfeasants perform attacks and compromise networks is a growing requirement to counter the threat. Network security education generally lacks appropriate textbooks with detailed, hands-on exercises that include both offensive and defensive techniques. Using step-by-step processes to build and generate attacks using offensive techniques, Network Attacks and Defenses: A Hands-on Approach enables students to implement appropriate network security solutions within a laboratory environment.

Topics covered in the labs include:

Content Addressable Memory (CAM) table poisoning attacks on network switchesAddress Resolution Protocol (ARP) cache poisoning attacksThe detection and prevention of abnormal ARP trafficNetwork traffic sniffing and the detection of Network Interface Cards (NICs) running in promiscuous modeInternet Protocol-Based Denial-of-Service (IP-based DoS) attacksReconnaissance trafficNetwork traffic filtering and inspectionCommon mechanisms used for router security and device hardeningInternet Protocol Security Virtual Private Network (IPsec VPN) security solution protocols, standards, types, and deploymentsRemote Access IPsec VPN security solution architecture and its design, components, architecture, and implementations

These practical exercises go beyond theory to allow students to better anatomize and elaborate offensive and defensive techniques. Educators can use the model scenarios described in this book to design and implement innovative hands-on security exercises. Students who master the techniques in this book will be well armed to counter a broad range of network security threats.

Introduction to Network Emulation PDF Download, Reviews, Read Online, ISBN: 9814310913, By Razvan Beuran
Fox eBook's insight:

Emulation is a hybrid experimentation technique intended to bridge the gap between simulation and real-world testing. The key idea of emulation is to reproduce in real time and in a controlled manner the essential functionality of a system, so that it can interact with other real systems that can thus be evaluated. This book describes the technique of network emulation and compares it with the other experimental approaches: the scholarly analytical modeling, the popular network simulation, and the demanding real-world testing. To emphasize the practical aspects related to emulation, this book presents a large number of examples of network emulators on the market, as well as provides an in-depth analysis of a case study, the wireless network emulation testbed called QOMB.
