The Napkin Dad Daily

The Napkin Dad Daily | ISO Mental Health & Wellness | Scoop.it

I doubt many perfectionists would agree with this. But if you are a perfectionist and you believe in improvement how do you explain your constant belittling of yourself and your efforts while in the very act of improving? You know that you have to not be perfect in order to improve, otherwise you would already have achieved what you were attempting, right? If you believe in improvement in life, work, relationships, hobbies, creativity, art, and more then you should aspire to improve, not to be perfect.

Most of us were shocked this month when a Wayland senior citizen died in a fire at his home with no running water and virtually no way out.

Most of us were shocked two years ago when a Bellingham couple and their dog were found dead in their home after emergency responders used a hydraulic wedge to pry open the door blocked by books, boxes and bins stacked to the ceiling.

Barbara Allen is saddened but hardly shocked by such stories.

It’s likely only a matter of time before her father is one of those headlines.

KARACHI: Sometimes the worst affected by mental disorders are the families of the people who suffer from such conditions. In other cases the triggers may even be in the family....

...The therapy technique includes the families in the therapy, teaching them about the mental condition. “The basic aim is to teach the client and their families about the disorders and help them cope with it in the long term,” according to Dr Uzma Ambareen, psychiatrist and diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Field Guide to the Famously Fussy | Psychology Today

Field Guide to the Famously Fussy | Psychology Today | ISO Mental Health & Wellness | Scoop.it

Jeff Lewis, a real-estate investor who buys and sells residential property in swanky Los Angeles neighborhoods, is preoccupied with order, symmetry, perfection, cleanliness, rules, and lists. If his refrigerator isn't stocked with bottles of Evian water, all with labels facing outwards, "there is hell to pay." But rather than tormenting the 37-year-old Lewis—star of the Bravo reality show Flipping Out—these obsessions have turned him into a multimillionaire. In Lewis's line of work, attention to detail is essential. Before putting a home back on the market, he must supervise months of painstaking renovations, typically at a cost of several hundred thousand dollars. "OK, I have a mental affliction," he says. "But it's an asset. My perfectionism sets my product apart."

As I child I often had dreams of the adult I would become--a pediatrician in a crisp white coat, an adored mom, the first female President of the United States, a tv journalist with perfectly coifed hair and impeccable makeup breaking tough stories. I could imagine the perfect house that I would live in with a white picket fence and bright green grass in the yard. I could even imagine the perfect marriage to the perfect husband and the perfectly behaved children I would have.

Transcend Fear: Get A Spiritual Restraining Order | Heal Now and Forever

Transcend Fear: Get A Spiritual Restraining Order | Heal Now and Forever | ISO Mental Health & Wellness | Scoop.it

Fear often has us feeling very alone. If we have experienced trauma in our life, this sense of vulnerability multiplies to a panic. Some of us isolate ourselves, which only makes the situation worse. Others feel an intense need to be around someone who loves them and cares. This feels like a protection against what might harm them and helps them feel not quite so alone. I always side on connection being the best counter to anxiety. Staying home, alone, stationary is the worst thing you can do. Being around people, feeling connected to them and to the world around you, fortifies you with a sense of purpose and belonging. This counters fear as it goes against what the trauma made you feel like: unworthy and useless.

Cultivating Mindful Work Relationships | The Hand

“Hell is other people,” wrote the French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre. He was right, but only half right. The other half is, “Heaven is other people, too.” To work in an organization necessarily means working with other people — coworkers, bosses, customers, vendors, the public. Our relationships with other people are what give us most of our headaches — but these relationships can also give us much joy.

I would add, however, that if the difficult person is mentally ill, all the mindfulness in the world won't turn a relationship with a boss, employer, or co-worker into a healthy one. It can help, but it won't cure.

Tiny Wisdom: It's Good Enough | Tiny Buddha: Wisdom Quotes, Letting Go, Letting Happiness In

Tiny Wisdom: It's Good Enough | Tiny Buddha: Wisdom Quotes, Letting Go, Letting Happiness In | ISO Mental Health & Wellness | Scoop.it
Sometimes we hone in on everything we think we’re lacking or doing wrong, and wonder what we need to fix or change to measure up. Then we judge ourselves at each step of the way, questioning whether or not we’re doing everything we should.

This has been true for me, and sometimes it still is.

Whenever I feel stressed out, it’s usually because I’m worrying about something I did or have to do, convincing myself I could have done better or I won’t do enough.
