How People Really Use The iPad (Business Insider Survey)

How People Really Use The iPad (Business Insider Survey) | Is the iPad a revolution? | Scoop.it
Even though this survey probably has a strong bias (Business Insider readers), it's interesting as it shows the trends in comparison with a similar Nov-10 survey.

Plus there's interesting insights when you recoup it with other data I've already curated on this topic:

Web browsing, social networking and emails are by far the leading usage drivers, capturing the majority of users' time on ipads and leaving Apps to a slightly growing but still small 19% (When you exclude the also growing 12% game playing).

Now when you also see that 2/3 of users downloaded more than 20 apps, it means individual usage is very small. Which is confirmed by the fact that 2/3 of respondents say they use less than 10 Apps on a regular basis.

It doesn't mean Apps are not relevant though: in the case of online, news, they're the preferred access to 1/3 of users (vs 38% for browser and 28% for newsreaders like Flipboard).

So is it really all about apps on iPad? Or just browsing?

The iPad strategy of Media sites seems to me to be much more complex than "let's do an iPad App".

Microsoft's Courier project will be unofficially revived on iPad | DVICE

Microsoft's Courier project will be unofficially revived on iPad | DVICE | Is the iPad a revolution? | Scoop.it
"Microsoft's two-screen Courier concept tablet had a lot of promise. Hailed as a "digital journal" — a device with an unlimited amount of digital pages built for keeping note scraps, doodles — anything really. Regrettably, the concept never made it into production, canned in light of the iPad's runaway success. The Taposé project wants to revive the ideas from the Courier and bring them to the iPad."

Amazing video inside. The system apparently tracks head motions with the front camera and also leverages the improved computed power of the ipad2 to display very cool 3D images.

Android Tablet Momentum Stalls among developers

Android Tablet Momentum Stalls among developers | Is the iPad a revolution? | Scoop.it
"Summary Appcelerator and IDC surveyed 2,760 Appcelerator Titanium developers from April 11-13 on perceptions surrounding mobile OS priorities, feature priorities, and mobile development plans in 2011."

Lots of interesting data in the study, one of which being that "interest in Android has recently plateaued as concerns around fragmentation and disappointing results from early tablet sales have caused developers to pull back from their previous steadily increasing enthusiasm for Google’s mobile operating system".

Apple iOS is leading mobile developers' interest with 91% saying they are very interested in iPhone development and a close 86% feeling the same about the iPad. To be compared with just 70% for Android Tablet.

Apple Co-Creator Says iPad is a Computer for "Normal People"

Apple Co-Creator Says iPad is a Computer for "Normal People" | Is the iPad a revolution? | Scoop.it
I agree!

=> Speaking at a event yesterday in Santa Clara, CA, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said that the "iPad is for the normal people of the world," not necessarily the tech savvy crowd he was addressing.

This is an interesting thought as concludes the author: "Wozniak may be over-generalizing when he says that the “iPad is for the normal people of this world,” but it still represents the best attempt we’ve yet seen to make computing easy enough for users who don’t have extensive computer-using experience. And the price of entry for ownership is on the low side not only for tablets, but also for computing devices in general."

I also feel the iPad brings the "less is more" value some will favor against "one-size-fit-all" complex and complete machines that are today's PC's.
