Daniel Watson's curator insight, April 3, 1:14 AM

A lot has been written in recent times on the subject of employee engagement, and business owners generally don't have the time to digest all the nuances embedded in the copious quantity of information available, so the essence of what is important is of more use to the average business owner.

Simply distilling  the information available relating to improving employee engagement levels, does not provide any form of guidance as to what to prioritise to make an earlier difference, therefore a different approach is needed.

This excellent article by a practicing global director of employee engagement, suggests that by connecting the brand and employees a business owner can make meaningful progress towards improving employee engagement levels, and it outlines the five areas of focus that are key steps to making this happen sooner rather than later.

Daniel Watson's curator insight, November 28, 2013 9:57 PM

Most small businesses that employ staff, find that the level of motivation in individuals can vary remarkably, and even for individuals their motivation levels can rise or fall dramatically over time.

Sometimes it is hard for business owners to understand what motivates or demotivates their employees, and given the complex science behind motivational theory, it is not surprising that articles on the subject can be very weighty and at times incomprehensible.

This excellent article, suggests that trust is the key factor in determining staff motivation, and it provides a simple infographic that very neatly sums up the whole subject to allow a better understanding of the basics of employee motivation.

John Bean's curator insight, October 23, 2013 12:12 PM

Dan Watson and the article / author are right on - teamwork is a critical ingredient to any business' success.  The 6 team mate type discussion is definitely something to consider.

In essence - this also speaks to the power of true Diversity and Inclusion.  D&I is more of a business imperitive than a social cause - as to ignore D & I is to pay lip service to "team work", and "leaves money on the table".  The article through the 6 team mate types speaks to valuing diversity of opinion, style, and background; and inclusion as valuable to a highly performing team.

Vincent Picton's curator insight, August 18, 10:07 AM

I do not necessarily agree with this saying, but I feel that teamwork may lead to success faster.

It is true that one person may not be able to complete the jobs that five people could due to lack of skills, but if that person was very skilled they may be able to complete the task, it would just take them longer.

This is how I felt sitting with the client in the waiting room.

wimi.pro's curator insight, December 9, 4:28 AM

Don't try to build a team in your own image. Aim for a diversity of skills and outlooks on life. You'll challenge yourself by surrounding yourself with strong thinkers-
