Michael J. Whelan is an Irish soldier,  poet and historian living in Tallaght, County Dublin. He served as a peacekeeper with the Irish Defence Forces in South Lebanon and Kosovo during the conflicts in those countries. He was 2nd Place Winner of The Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award in 2011 (short listed 2012), 3rd Place winner in the Jonathon Swift Creative Writers Awards 2012 (Short listed 2011) and listed in the Doire Press & Cork Literary Poetry Manuscript Prize. He was selected as a reader for the Eigse Eireann/Poetry Ireland Introductions Series 2012. His poems and short stories have featured in The Moth, Cyphers, Crannog, Wordlegs, the Galway Review and Three Monkey’s Online Magazinean

The site is curated by Gerard Beirne an Irish poet and novelist now living in Canada. His new novel is Charlie Tallulah (Oberon Press). His most recent collection of poetry is Games of Chance:A Gambler`s Manual (Oberon Press). His novel The Eskimo in the Net (Marion Boyars Publishers) was shortlisted for the Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award and was selected by the Literary Editor of the Daily Express  as his Book of the Year “scandalously ignored by the Man Booker judges...”.
