John F Deane was born Achill Island. He single-handedly founded Poetry Ireland to improve the lot of Irish poets and was responsible for The Poetry Ireland Review. He was also involved in The National Poetry Society and in 1979 set up Daedalus Press which is still publishing collections of poetry and some fiction; he was elected Secretary-General of the European Academy of Poetry in 1996
John has won the O’Shaughnessy Award for Irish Poetry, the Marten Toonder Award for Literature and poetry prizes from Italy and Romania and has been shortlisted for both the T.S.Eliot prize and The Irish Times Poetry Now Award and has won residencies in Bavaria, Monaco and Paris. His works this century alone include ‘Tocatta and Fugue’ Carcanet 2000, ‘Manhandling The Deity’ Carcanet 2003 ‘The Instruments of Art’, Carcanet 2005; ‘In Dogged Loyalty’, essays on religious poetry, Columba 2006; , ‘A Little Book of Hours’ Carcanet 2008 is latest collection ‘Eye of The Hare‘ Carcanet 2011. Works of fiction include ‘The Heather Fields and Other Stories’ Blackstaff 2007 and ‘Where No Storms Come’ Blackstaff 2010

The site is curated by Gerard Beirne an Irish poet and novelist based in Sligo. He has published six books of poetry and fiction. His novel The Eskimo in the Net (Marion Boyars Publishers) was shortlisted for the Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award and was selected by the Literary Editor of the Daily Express  as his Book of the Year “scandalously ignored by the Man Booker judges...”. His recent collection of stories was shortlisted for the Danuta Gleed Literary Award.
