Before taking up his post in Brazil in 2008, Alex (Heemskerk, The Netherlands, 1975) lived in Ireland for twelve years, where he studied Irish (Gaelic) and Applied Media Studies at the National University of Ireland, Galway and built a career in journalism. He worked as a radio and TV reporter, in both English and Irish, for RTÉ News and Nuacht TG4 and as a print journalist for the Irish language newspaper Foinse, while contributing to various other publications, including The Irish Times.
Alex’ literary career took flight after his move to Brazil. He has published two books, both of them in Irish: Favela, a work of non-fiction on living in a Brazilian slum, and Aiséirí, a novel.
