Open Source: Flipboard Style Transitions And Reader Example For iPad | iPhone and iPad development | Scoop.it

The Flipboard app is an excellent magazine style reader for iPad. With the beautiful middle of the page flipping, and easy to read articles setup really gives it an immersive quality.

Here is an open source library that aims to create an iPad reader similar to Flipboard, and provides similar transitions, and easy article reading as Flipboard.

Auto-Incrementing Build Numbers for Release Builds in Xcode

Auto-Incrementing Build Numbers for Release Builds in Xcode | iPhone and iPad development | Scoop.it

The way I deal with this is a Run Script Build Phase in my application's executable target that runs the following Ruby script (make sure you set the "shell" field to /usr/bin/ruby, and make sure the script is the last build phase in the application). Feel free to use this script if you wish and modify it to meet your needs. If you improve it, I'd be glad to incorporate improvements back into it. One item of note: the way that I differentiate between Archive builds and other Release configuration builds might be a bit fragile since I'm relying on an undocumented naming pattern in an environment variable.

iOS Image Filter

iOS Image Filter | iPhone and iPad development | Scoop.it
These days everyone seems to want instagram-style filters for images on iPhone. The way to do this (I think) is to examine how people have implemented equivalent filters in Photoshop and code them in objective c. Unfortunately, the imaging libraries are all geared for gaming. For non-game developers who just want simple image processing, this is overkill.

All about iOS5

All about iOS5 | iPhone and iPad development | Scoop.it
At the Worldwide Developers Conference 2011, at San Francisco Apple executives released iOS5 for developers on 6th June 2011and available for users by end 2011.iOS4.3.3 is Apple’s last version upgrade for iOS devices. The iOS 5 update boasts 200 new features and 1,500 new APIs. Several new features were demonstrated on stage and many found those features similar to ones offered by other mobile operating systems. The biggest surprise came with the PC Free feature that is complemented by the much-hyped iCloud, a web based data syncing service. That means you won’t have to hook your iOS device to a PC or Mac using a cable. Instead, you can get updates and sync data over the air.

Nimbus on GitHub

Nimbus on GitHub | iPhone and iPad development | Scoop.it
Nimbus is an iOS framework whose feature set grows only as fast as its documentation.

By focusing on documentation first and features second, Nimbus hopes to be a framework that accelerates the development process of any application by being easy to use and simple to understand.

Nimbus has been built with much inspiration from the Three20 framework. That being said, there are a number of fundamental problems with Three20 that Nimbus works very hard to avoid

Ad-Hoc App Distribution with XCode 4 « Diary of a Code Monkey

Ad-Hoc App Distribution with XCode 4 « Diary of a Code Monkey | iPhone and iPad development | Scoop.it
So amongst the many nice features in XCode 4 comes the modified process for building your app for distribution. And with “The Google” not being entirely helpful about the process as well as the docs on the Apple developer site still containing the XCode 3 instructions I thought it would help at least somebody out there for me to document the process. Please note that since I haven’t built one yet for distribution to the app store this just covers ad-hoc distribution. Maybe I’ll update this when we release to the app store.

iOS Dev Tips: Custom UISplitViewController for iPad

iOS Dev Tips: Custom UISplitViewController for iPad | iPhone and iPad development | Scoop.it
The main reason for custom UISplitViewController — it's possible to be extended. For now:

it always keeps both sides visible
it's always launched in the Portrait but rotated to any direction properly
each side contains UINavigationController so it's easy to do any navigation by pushing and poping UIViewControllers
any number of APSplitViewController can be used inside tabs of UITabBarController (APCustomTabBarController included)

Developing widgets for iOS 5 Notification Center technically possible

Developing widgets for iOS 5 Notification Center technically possible | iPhone and iPad development | Scoop.it
Although Apple has not said if iOS 5′s Notification Center widget section will have a public API for third-party widgets, developer WillFour20 has figured out a way to develop a simple widget as a proof of concept. This proof of concept demonstrates that even without proper tools provided by Apple in the SDK, making widgets for Notification Center is technically possible. As you can see in the image above, a space for the new widget was created and the programmed text, “hello world,” appears.
