"The following list represents some apps that may be of interest to secondary teachers. This list is based on personal use of the apps and from recommendations from other educators (Greg Swanson: Senior Project Officer- eLearning, Australia; Med Kharbach: Teacher, Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax, Canada; Beth Holland: Senior Associate at EdTech Teacher, Providence, Rhode Island Area;). The icons used are screen selections from the Apple Apps site and the summaries are from information provided on the site or from reviewers of the app. Clicking on the icon is a direct link to that particular app which then gives you the opportunity to review the app in a more indepth manner and decide whether or not to download. "Some impressive facts from ign.com on the impact of iPads: * Over 100 million sold * iPad sales topped all other PC Manufacturers in the second quarter of 2012 * 94 percent of Fortune 500 companies use iPads "in an official capacity." Despite these mind-blowing numbers, I am always interested in the discussion of what device is best in an educational setting. Audrey Watters wrote a post this week asking, "Why Tablets?" that got me thinking about this a bit more, especially given the fact that we currently have over 1,200 iPads in Burlington, a number that will soon be over 2,000 as we deploy iPads at the middle school level."

"The drive to increase technology use in classrooms has many asking whether the investment is more fizzle than bang, and whether it’s too early to tell how wisely the money is being spent. Education author Peg Tyre has investigated the use of iPads http://www.takepart.com/article/2013/01/31/ipads-education-gadgets-really-helping-kids-learn , one of the most popular classroom additions, in TakePart. She concludes that iPads may assist in some new classroom techniques, but by themselves, they may not be better than traditional, cheaper methods."
