A $1 million project that gave iPads to classes of six and seven-year-olds improved their behaviour and eagerness to learn, an independent evaluation has found.

Year 1 and 2 students at West Beechboro Primary School participated in a DoE trial to determine the effectiveness of iPads in improving students' learning in literacy and numeracy. Whilst it is difficult to state that student achievement levels increased as a direct result of iPad use in our classes, it can certainly be said that students are engaged in, and motivated by, the use of iPad apps. It is time now for us to look more deeply at how using iPads can assist our students in understanding 'how to learn'; time to focus on how the iPads can enhance the students' ability to enquire and display their learning; time to create 'future learners'...
