Makes you wonder how on earth earth such misguided studies can even be commissioned. Also makes you curious about who is really behind the funding of research that misleads readers into believing that poor kids don’t need the same tools their wealthier peers use for success.

another uuseful research about iPads in the classroom. Gives an insight of erent experience,

I specially liked the words:

“No technology has an impact on learning in its own right; rather, its impact depends on how it is used… The question that should be asked is not ‘Can iPads support learning?’ but rather ‘How can iPads be used to support collaborative learning, or exploratory learning’, or whatever…”

Flipping the Class with Explain Everything & Google Drive - Turning Learning On Its Head

Flipping the Class with Explain Everything & Google Drive - Turning Learning On Its Head | iPads in the classroom | Scoop.it
Today I did a workshop for Chicago Public Schools where I helped them think through how to use iPads to flip their classes.   If you are considering using iPads to create flipped videos, there are many tools.  One of them is Explain Everything.   And since CPS is a google apps school system I developed a workflow for them to share the videos they created with Explain Everything to google drive.  (This is also a playlist on my YouTube channel) .

I don´t know what the reason was, but they often had some technical problem and instead of helping during the lesson they just caused problems. But the best thing about the tablets at school is the leighter backpack.

For students who struggle with output, the option now exists to record ideas directly "onto a page." Similarly, teachers can leave audio feedback for students who benefit from hearing input multiple times. With the built-in camera, students can quickly snap pictures of class notes on a board, or record a quick video of teacher instruction. Leveraging just these few features has the potential to personalize learning and differentiate instruction where it might otherwise be impossible.

We have a long way to go to understand best practices for iPads, to move it from a play thing to integrated into creative pedagogy. However, "The Longest Journey begins with the First Step" and that is getting into the hands or teachers and learners.

imaginary library's curator insight, July 13, 2013 11:19 AM

The most important thing to do is to start with the wife of using the iPad if you have a sound pedagogical reason for using the iPad then you'll be a will to come up with uses that are appropriate.

10 Big Concerns About Tablets In The Classroom

As we look into integrating tablets in the classroom, it’s becoming increasingly clear that buying tablets for the purpose of enhancing learning is very different to buying tablets for recreational purposes such as browsing Facebook and entertainment sites, or even for more serious pursuits such as business or work. Parents and teachers need to consider a myriad of issues specific to young people.

Very good points ! Once parents are shown what the tablet can or can't do, they become supporters. We have had no major accidents with tablets so far with 4 graders. (9-10 year old pupils).

Still, I wonder how distracting these can be.  I have had students say they prefer print because they can study and read without the temptation to jump on Facebook.

How can I use iPad to make me a better teacher?” Before I rush ahead with how I am going to roll out this device in my classrooms, I need to effectively incorporate it into my life and figure out how to use iPads to make me a better teacher."
