Curating Our Digital Lives hangout-071812

Curation has been a heating up topic in marketing and journalism for the last couple of years.  Social curation tools have begun to sprout legs and come ashore in droves.  Teachers are now beginning to take up what it means in their personal, professional, and pedagogical lives.  P2PU and the National Writing Project have been at this issue in their summer self-study on Digital Curation here:  https://p2pu.org/en/groups/curating-our-digital-lives/

For four weeks participants are seeking, making sense of, and sharing what digital curation is for learners K-University.  They are curating about curating right here at Scoop.it on CurationEd.  This video is part of a Wednesday night YouTube Hangout to discuss what has gone on the past week and what will go on the next week.  This is a good listen if you want to see folks think out loud about this new new thing called curation.

An Acoustic Journey Through YouTube

An Acoustic Journey Through YouTube | iPads in the classroom | Scoop.it

An interesting use of video playlists as curation. I wonder how this person went about choosing the themes, and whether there is connection between them. (ie, do they tell a story?)

Wow, I just 'invested' 45 minutes in this wormhole. Lots of in, lots of outs. A whole new wing of the Internet I didn't even know about. This is very specific curation, one that allows for the creation of new digital art. I think of it as a youtube generated sampling keyboard. Can't wait for this to come out in a ToysRUs nearby.

Wormhole -- that's about right.

Growing Up Digital: iPad Rules for the Elementary Classroom

Growing Up Digital: iPad Rules for the Elementary Classroom | iPads in the classroom | Scoop.it

I wrote these rules after using iPads with elementary students for a month and a half. I wanted the rules to be concise enough that they'd be remembered, but comprehensive enough that they'd cover major areas of concern.

The Evolution of Technology and Education

The Evolution of Technology and Education | iPads in the classroom | Scoop.it

As Ken says, when he posted this as part of his Scoop.it! curations:

"in the 1950's-70's, 1 in 20 US college-aged students went to college.  Today, 1 in 2 does

This infographic does a great job of articulating the transformation that technology has imposed on education."
