Lost Your Apple TV Remote? You Don't Need to Buy Another! | iPads in the classroom | Scoop.it

"Apple TV has proven to be a very useful gadget, both at home and at school. Airplay mirroring is its best feature. I am able to show whatever is on my iPad/iPhone screen and beam it up to a big-screen TV or a projector. I believe, at its relatively low price point of $100, any Apple fan should own one. In terms of the classroom, it can be a powerful tool for supporting your teaching. Teachers can benefit from being able to roam around the classroom and beam up multiple devices."

"Sticky notes are a good way to keep yourself organized and boost the pace of your workflow. I used to have paper sticky notes everywhere in my study room and I still have some dangling here but I shifted to digital sticky notes because I can access them anywhere I go. However, with the widespread of iPad, there emerged a need for apps to do the job the paper and web based stiky notes used to do and hence the development of some wonderful iPad sticky notes apps."

Presentation Zen: Sir Ken Robinson gives best talk yet at TED Talks Education

Presentation Zen: Sir Ken Robinson gives best talk yet at TED Talks Education | iPads in the classroom | Scoop.it

"Creativity and education expert Sir Ken Robinson delivered two amazingly popular TED Talks prior to 2013. His first talk http://bit.ly/1fjhkH6 —presented sans multimedia in the true Sir Ken Robinson style — was made in 2006 and is the most viewed TED talk of all time. His follow-up talk given in 2010 http://bit.ly/1f6zZp2 also has been downloaded millions of times. I have seen Sir Ken speak many times and he is always inspiring and engaging, but his latest TED talk, http://bit.ly/IEXH0Q presented at TED Talks Education in April of this year, is my favorite yet. Good presentation is a balance of information, persuasion, and inspiration. Presentations related to leadership must necessarily light a spark and point the way. Sir Ken does not scream or jump up and down but he nonetheless ignites, provokes, and inspires his live audience, and anyone else who cares to listen to his presentation on line, in a meaningful and memorable way. Millions of people have seen his latest talk, but just in case you have not, please set aside about 20 minutes to watch this outstanding, albeit short, talk below."

Using the iPad would make the research, peer editting process, and revising process easier.  Most students that enjoy writing do not enjoy the revise, editting process.  The use of the iPad definately streamlines the writing process!

Mary Kate Lavin's curator insight, January 23, 2014 10:08 AM

This article describes the writing process by using an ipad to organize, compose, and edit their written language.  Many students do not enjoy writing because of the process it takes for them to write (think of an idea, form the letters, make a complete sentence, and then edit the work)

20 iPad Gaming Apps to Boost Kids Critical Thinking Skills ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

20 iPad Gaming Apps to Boost Kids Critical Thinking Skills ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | iPads in the classroom | Scoop.it

"Gaming is an important component of the child's cognitive and emotional growth. In his wonderful book " What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Learning and Literacy. Second Edition: Revised and Updated Edition " http://amzn.to/1bOeA48 James Paul Gee argued for the importance of game play for the learners' developing personalty and the honing of their thinking capacities. Gee analyzed several of the popular video and online games like Sims City, and War of Warcraft, to mention but a few , and found out that the learning design informing these games  are behind their sweeping popularity among gamers in all around the world. Gee further claimed that investing time in playing these games does impinge positively on the learning skills of kids. It, among many other things, help them develop strategic thinking, problem solving, active critical thinking, and meta-level thinking. Check out this post http://bit.ly/19nKi7H ; to learn more about the learning principles embedded in game play as conceptualized by Gee."

"Take a moment to think about how you learned to write. What steps did you go through? What was your process?

Most of us learned the same core set of skills on paper: organize, draft, edit, revise, turn in. Our teachers then marked up what we had handwritten or typed, and returned our writing. From there, maybe it ended up tacked to a bulletin board, stuck on the refrigerator door, stuffed into a notebook, or tossed in the nearest trash can. Let's call this Writing 1.0."
