How To Get Students To Love Reading

How To Get Students To Love Reading | Ipads in Schools | Scoop.it
Reading is one of the major foundations of any student's studies. In any subject - including math - understanding how to read and being able to comprehend words on a page is a make or break in academics and in life more generally.

There really isn't anything here that's new to Teacher Librarians but the format is well-done. The infographic would be great to share with parents of elementary-aged children. A creative librarian could use this as a template for making bookmarks to give out during Donuts with Dads or Muffins with Mom or some such parent activity. Enjoy!

This page gathers all of the Bloomin' Apps projects in one place!

Each of the images has clickable hotspots and includes suggestions for
iPad, Google, Android, and Web 2.0 applications
to support each of the levels of Bloom's Revised Taxonomy.

The use of the triangle shape for Bloomin' apps projects was not used
to help clear up the misunderstanding that the levels are hierarchical and
the top levels only make up a tiny portion of the cognitive processes.

8 Ways To Unlock The Power Of Your Interactive Whiteboard | Edudemic

8 Ways To Unlock The Power Of Your Interactive Whiteboard | Edudemic | Ipads in Schools | Scoop.it

Interactive whiteboards are a great classroom tool. Many teachers use them to project and capture images – basically as a high tech, connected chalkboard. While definitely useful in these ways, the handy infographic below describes using your interactive white board that way as letting it go ‘underused’.

I do not recommend Prezi as the program access is just as poor as the costumer service.

I would recommend additional programs that would add additional dimension to the interactive experience would be Evernote and Zotero. What programs would you add?

I would like to highlight the following from this article:

Let’s take the focus off the tool; Instead, let’s focus on:

the pedagogy behind the tool and use it because it addresses our students’ cognitive needs, not because it is available or exciting.

developing critical thinkers with the ability to find, reflect on, curate and synthesise information.

developing lifelong learners who will be able to create and use their Personal Learning Networks to self-educate and grow.

educating digital citizens, that is, responsible members of an increasingly global and interconnected world who know their rights and responsibilities; people who can make informed decisions about the content they create or share and its impact on themselves and on the other members of a digital community.

Pamela Perry King's curator insight, December 9, 2013 10:39 AM

So true, so many tools so little time. We must remember our first objective is to be a teacher.

This is an update to Bloom's Revised Taxonomy which attempts to account for the new behaviours and actions emerging as technology advances and becomes more ubiquitous. Bloom's Revised Taxonomy describes many traditional classroom practices, behaviours and actions, but does not account for the new processes and actions associated with Web 2.0 technologies, infowhelm (the exponential growth in information), increasing ubiquitous personal technologies or cloud computing.
