Free Technology for Teachers: Six Weeks of iPad Apps for School (Or 46 apps I've liked) | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"Tomorrow marks six weeks since I officially launched my blog devoted to iPad apps for students and teachers. And since I won't win any awards for clever titles, I just called it iPad Apps for School. Since I launched the blog I've published 56 posts which is better than one per day. In the slideshow below I've organized 46 of the reviewed apps. The slideshow is organized in the following order: math apps, science apps, social studies apps, language arts apps, video apps, and productivity apps. Not all of the apps in this slideshow are free, but most of them are."

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: 18 Great Science apps for iPad

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: 18 Great Science apps for iPad | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"Gone are the days when you would have to attend those boring classes and spend hours listening to  the teacher lecturing about abstract scientific concepts that are more perplexing than illuminating. I said perplexing because they lack a very important  learning principle that make them unlearnable: they do not connect to the  ' embodied experiences ' of the learners and what James Paul Gee meant by this principle is that for learning to be effective it needs to connect to the learners life, experiences, and environment. When learners are able to make such connections their comprehension improves and becomes more solid."

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: 7 Outstanding Free Books for your iPad

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: 7 Outstanding Free Books for your iPad | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"Below is a list of some excellent books for your iPad. I have curated this list over  the last couple of months and I kept adding to it every time I stumble upon a resource somewhere online.I don't know if you like reading books on your iPad or not but let me tell you this: having at least a couple of titles installed on your iPad would really be of great help particularly in those moments when you are stuck somewhere and have nothing to do but waiting. Reading is a habit ( luckily a good one ) that we can ACQUIRE  by force of habituation at least in the eyes of Skinnerian theory. The more you read , the fluent you get at reading and the more used your mind becomes to the act of reading."

Flipboard vs. Pulse vs. Currents vs. Zite: And The Winner Is… | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

I relied on Google Reader for everything “news & feeds” ever since they launched it. But today we live on an information superhighway and we’re overloaded with all the information under the sun.

I had subscribed to over 40 RSS feeds that publish 120+ articles daily. Thanks to TechCrunch & Mashable who post at least 80 articles daily (combined) and that keeps me busy whenever I check Google Reader. What’s interesting or should I say disheartening  is that 90% of their posts are irrelevant for me.

In a maker space, students are active and there is usually a tangible result.  Students  learn to find and read technical information, collaborate with others, and organize or curate information. They apply all of  these skills to producing something.
