Screencasting Apps for the iPad

Screencasting Apps for the iPad | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"As other teachers who have used iPads for years already know, there are some very cool educational apps out there, and recently I have been exploring various screencasting apps to record lessons for my classroom.  I have also had tons of fun playing with all of them over the winter break, screencasting from my couch about goofy things (mostly involving my two glorified throw-rugs of dogs) with my husband shaking his head at me from his armchair."

Free Technology for Teachers: Build a Media Gallery With Your Students in 2013

Free Technology for Teachers: Build a Media Gallery With Your Students in 2013 | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"One of the challenges of having students create videos, slideshows, podcasts, and other multimedia productions in your classroom is making sure that they are respectful of copyright. One way to avoid any worry about copyright is by having students use media that they have created from scratch. Of course, building up a gallery of media that is large enough for all of your students to use takes time. To start building up a gallery of images, sounds, and video clips that your students can use in their projects commit to a 365 project for 2013. This year have your students make daily contributions to a group media gallery. If a daily schedule is too frequent for you try a weekly schedule with your students. Here are some tools that you can use to collect and create your classroom media gallery."

Apps for Autism Spectrum Disorder

Apps for Autism Spectrum Disorder | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"When looking for apps for students on the autism spectrum (ASD), it is important to look at all educational apps and not just those that are tagged as autism apps. They have many of the same learning needs that other students have. This list was developed to provide apps based on common learning characteristics and traits that are typical for students with ASD. It is important to remember that all students learn differently and selecting apps should be based on the unique learning needs of the student. This list is only a sampling of apps available for each skill area. This is not, nor is it meant to be a definitive list. This list is intended to give you a starting place and a rationale for picking."

"I met with three fifth grade students this week to see if they could even play a few chords on the iPad. So I downloaded some lyrics that showed the chords for Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day, I know nothing about music so I hoped this going in the right direction.

I started up my iPad and launched GarageBand and selected the smart guitar, I set it to the correct key (F minor) and showed the kids how to strum the guitar on the iPad."

For that reason, a unit converter comes in handy. Utilities that tell you how loud things in your car are can also be useful — you don’t want to go deaf. If you find yourself craving an app that can do a good many things in a beautiful way, SkyPaw has just the thing."
