Bluetooth Music Receiver, a very affordable wireless audio solution

Bluetooth Music Receiver, a very affordable wireless audio solution | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"The Monoprice Bluetooth Receiver is a very useful product that I recently purchased for my teaching. As you may know, I am a “traveling” teacher and thus teach in seven or eight different classrooms during the week. I do have a cart which houses my projector, laptop, and iPad and speakers. Very often, especially for the primary classes, we will sing songs through either my iPhone or iPad."

$10 iPad App Setup - Matt Gomez Kindergarten Teacher

$10 iPad App Setup - Matt Gomez Kindergarten Teacher | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"One question I seem to get a lot about the iPad is what apps do I recommend that are free. I am hearing from a lot of teachers that they have no way to add paid apps and thus are stuck trying to find free apps. My experience is that many free apps stink. They have many adds, require in app purchases to be useful, or are just junk. I tend to stay away from most free apps. So what are you to do if the district controls adding paid apps? My suggestion is to build relationships with the decision makers. Don’t just ask for a bunch of apps, instead provide documentation and purpose for a few apps you would like to have. I know this process takes time and effort but if you can show the purpose and learning you have a much better chance. If you need lesson ideas I suggest checking out my Pinterest page http://pinterest.com/mattBgomez/ ; and three of my favorite Pinterest pages:  iPadsammy http://pinterest.com/ipadsammy/ , TechChef4u http://pinterest.com/techchef4u/ , and Sue Gorman http://pinterest.com/sjgorman/ . Look for apps and lesson ideas there and modify them to fit your standards and kids.

If I was starting from scratch this is the $10 iPad app setup I would push for in my kindergarten classroom. (I will be posting a $20 setup later)"

"When it hit the news that Google acquired Sparrow, a very popular third-party email app at the time, there was a harsh outcry by tech blogs and social media. Users were saddened by the notion that their beloved app would essentially be abandoned and stripped for parts. Unlike most app developers, the team at Sparrow was very good about collaborating with users in order to continually improve the app, which users really admired; so, the outcry was understandable."

"On one recent day at PS 177 in Queens, NY, a scene that’s typical this time of year unfolds: the school band plays some holiday tunes in the hallway. But there’s something different about this band: all six students have severe learning disabilities--most are autistic to some degree--and their instrument of choice isn’t a horn or woodwind, but a tablet computer."

The 20 Best iOS And Android Apps Of 2012 | TechCrunch | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"The apps we selected were either released or significantly updated between January 1 and December 21 of this year. Titles that debuted on iOS or Android in 2012 that were previously available on another platform are eligible for inclusion. All of our selections were sourced, ranked and finalized by Appolicious advisors and members of our community. In all, about a dozen members of the Appolicious editorial team offered their favorites. We also surveyed the most active and influential users of Appolicious sites and applications. We did not account for the number of app downloads or overall popularity. Our qualitative assessment is based primarily on the production value, utility and creativity baked into each cited application. Here goes."

Science Explained « techchef4u

Science Explained « techchef4u | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"At last week’s iPad site visit, a student on the panel was describing her favorite iLesson:

“It was in science. It is an interactive periodic table (app). We were learning about the elements. You click on an element and it gives you the history, who made it, how you use it, what it is used for. Another cool feature is you can make them. You can keep on adding neutrons, electrons, and protons as much as you like and every time you click on the plus or minus, it tells you what element you just made. The results were really amazing. We had more interest in the periodic table than we ever had before mainly because it was fun, it was interesting, we actually got to play around with it and see what we could make with it instead of just giving us a piece of paper and telling us ‘research these’.”"
