Evernote Food 2.0: Your Entire Food World In A Single App

Evernote Food 2.0: Your Entire Food World In A Single App | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"When we launched Evernote Food a year ago, we had one goal in mind: to create the perfect app for remembering food experiences. And we did just that.

Since then, we’ve updated and improved the app dramatically, but something kept nagging at us. Evernote Food was great at capturing the grand finale of the meal—all the dishes, the people, the ambiance—but what about the inspiration? What about the process of discovering a recipe or choosing the restaurant? So we went back to the drawing board and rethought Evernote Food from scratch. The result is one the most beautiful, fun and complete food applications ever."

"Studio Pango produces a bunch of iPad apps that children (pre-K through grade 2) are sure to love. Some of the apps are free and some of the apps require purchase. To get a sense of what the paid apps offer, try the free apps first. This morning I tried two of the free apps. I tried Pango Book 1 and Pango Playground for Kids."

10 Tools To Get Kids Excited About Programming

10 Tools To Get Kids Excited About Programming | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it
"Precocious. That was the single adjective used to describe a child displaying some natural talent straying from the normal. A generational leap later, I am not so sure that the word holds the meaning it used to. Every second toddler these days seems to display a natural likeness for things digital. So, it is easy to assume that they will take to computers as a fish takes to water.

For the average kid (I won’t talk about someone like Lim Ding Wen here, though I will use his cute photo as the thumbnail alongside), computers and smartphones are fun tools. Education comes much later. Getting a kid excited about programming might take some doing because logic needs a bit of time to develop. It is imagination and creativity which arrive first. That’s where the crux of these ten tools lie…using creative tools to get children excited about programming."

Around the Corner-MGuhlin.org: One Drive to Rule Them All - Gathering Students' #iPad Work in #Google #Drive | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it
"In a previous blog entry that has been visited many times, 7 Ways to Collect Student Work in an iPad Classroom, I share a few ways to get student work off your iPad. However, given that Google Drive has made some dramatic changes in how it works, I'm making a new suggestion--Use the Open in App option and choose Drive.

Google Drive is a free service that lets you store all your files including documents, photos, videos and Google Docs online and access them anywhere. (Source)

Drive changes everything in terms of how we can get work off of student devices. While there are many workflows to explore with each of your favorite apps, here's what it looks like with Keynote (also works with Pages and probably Apple's other apps) that makes WebDav servers unnecessary."

Using Blurb Mobile for Digital Storytelling on the iPad

Using Blurb Mobile for Digital Storytelling on the iPad | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it
I’m a big fan of digital storytelling apps. There are lots of them, and most of them are very good, but many are aimed at elementary students. So, when I find something new, innovative, and a little less cartoony like Blurb Mobile, I am always glad because it gives me another app to share with secondary teachers.

"Whether we loved it or we hated it, reading Shakespeare was something that most of us had to do in school. Today’s students read Shakespeare’s works too.  When we read Shakespeare we had to carry a physical book around. iPads for Everyone: How a small library program became a runaway hit and reached more than 4,100 kids and teachers - The Digital Shift

iPads for Everyone: How a small library program became a runaway hit and reached more than 4,100 kids and teachers - The Digital Shift | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it
"Walk into our school library and you’re bound to see scores of iPads propped up on the tables. Our students at Westlake High, a large suburban school on the outskirts of Austin, TX, are using them to read ebooks, download assignments, edit videos, write blog posts, and to do much more. Since we rolled out our 1:1 iPad program a year ago, more than 4,100 teachers and students, including eighth graders at the nearby middle school and even some of our elementary school classes, have taken advantage of these devices. In fact, they’ve become as much a part of students’ everyday lives as their notebooks, backpacks, and textbooks."
