How To Help Families Integrate to 1:1 Programs at Home - Edutopia

How To Help Families Integrate to 1:1 Programs at Home - Edutopia | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"

The Los Angeles Unified School District's recent decision to provide each of its 600,000 plus students with an iPad makes sense. The technology drumbeat is growing louder and louder. Training children to use the tools of their future is a must, and the LAUSD is smart to take a proactive approach.

But as the technology revolution proceeds in the classroom, a critical piece of the equation must not be overlooked: the effect on the home. The iPads that L.A. school kids will receive are not going to sleep in a school locker at the end of each day. The iPad is coming home."

464 Digital Learning Tools To Sift Through On A Rainy Day

464 Digital Learning Tools To Sift Through On A Rainy Day | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"So the following list by Dale Borgeson then–almost maddeningly long at 464 digital learning tools and counting–will make some of you crazy, and some of you smile. If you count yourself among the latter, help improve the list on your next rainy day. How? You can make listly a more effective crowdsourcing tool by “upvoting” apps you’ve used and like, and downvoting those you’ve used and don’t like. In doing so, you help separate the useful apps from the not-so-much."

How to Use iPads for Personal Professional Development - Indiana Jen

How to Use iPads for Personal Professional Development - Indiana Jen | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

As an educator, when I am given a new tool my first thought is “how can I use this in the classroom? How will I roll this out?” However, I have learned over the years that I need to pause, step back, and think, “Okay, how is this tool going to make my life and job easier? How can I use iPad to make me a better teacher?” Before I rush ahead with how I am going to roll out this device in my classrooms, I need to effectively incorporate it into my life and figure out how to use iPads to make me a better teacher."

My First Year of One to One: A Reflection - Primary Preoccupation

My First Year of One to One: A Reflection - Primary Preoccupation | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"A little over a year ago, I won a contest from Best Buy Canada. The contest asked applicants to write about what they would purchase at Best Buy if they had any amount up to $20 000 to spend. Since it had long been my dream to be a one to one classroom, and I was intrigued by the possibilities that iPads held for young children, I chose to say that I would purchase a class set of iPads.  Much to my delight, I was chosen as a winner, and I had the opportunity to go on the shopping trip of a lifetime! (This contest now appears to have disappeared.)"

This is one of the first resources to actively use digital tools to upgrade the minutes before instruction starts.  In my professional experience this would be very useful.  I think this is a new area that can be developed further to build in opportunities for students to use technology to deepen their learning.  What do you think?  Would you use this new resource?

The Simple Power of a Screenshot

The Simple Power of a Screenshot | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"Sometimes it's the little things that can prove to be powerful. The quick and easy action of taking a screenshot can transform how you use technology in your classroom. A screenshot is simply a picture of what is on the screen of your device. On the iPad, users press the home button and power button at the same time, and a snapshot of the screen is sent directly to the Camera Roll. Taking a screenshot is the perfect way to capture student work on mobile devices."
