Great Tutorial on How to Create your Own eBook on iPad ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Great Tutorial on How to Create your Own eBook on iPad ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"Creating an eBook online is no rocket science and anyone with the rudimentary knowledge of how to use internet can get his/her eBook up and viral in a couple of minutes provided the content part of it is already written in a word document. I find the typing and editing part the most  difficult stage in this process;  however, if you just want to set up a short ebook for your students then that would not take you much time.

Just a couple of weeks ago I shared here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning a list of great apps  to use to create eBooks on iPad and I received several emails following that post and some of you asked for tutorials on this topic. Here is one of my favorite tutorials on how to create an eBook on iPad that I always recommend to my fellow teachers. Check it out below and share with us what you think of it. Enjoy"

Stefanie Stewart Crosser's curator insight, September 20, 2014 5:08 PM

There are various ways to use technology in the classroom, but how long does it take to prepare lessons through technology? They say "Don't take your work home" because it can seriously affect one's family and home-life, but is there enough time in the day to prepare effective lessons without taking your job home? Teachers are not paid enough to create their own lesson plans using technology - let along to teach, with all of the constant changing standards!

5 Best Apps for Math and Counting

5 Best Apps for Math and Counting | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"As a follow up to my post about writing apps (which you can click here to see) I thought I’d share some of the math and counting apps we’ve discovered. Again, it’s been challenging to find the few jewels among the plain old rocks. I really hadn’t realized how many apps were out there, nor how terrible some of them could be! The ones I list below (in no particular order) are the ones that I like because of their educational value, and that kids like for their entertainment value. Each of these apps (except for Count Sort Match) offers a free “lite” version and a full price version. Click on the title or the picture to see the app in the app store."

iPads in the Classroom

"At DonorsChoose.org we have noticed a recent trend in technology-based project requests. Teachers recognize that we live in an age of information and are excited to bring items such as iPads, laptops, iPods, and Kindles into their classrooms. Eric Crouch of Columbus, GA created a video about how he uses iPads to engage his first grade students. Take a peek into Mr. Crouch’s classroom as he discusses the benefits of learning through iPads."

10 Apps to Take Advantage of iCloud on Your iPad | iPad.AppStorm

10 Apps to Take Advantage of iCloud on Your iPad | iPad.AppStorm | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"Upon the iCloud API being introduced, it was no secret that developers were somewhat slow to take advantage of what it offered. The feature allowed game developers to do things like store users’ game saves in the cloud, but many developers already had systems in place that did exactly this. What benefits would they get from moving to Apple’s service? This of course wasn’t the only functionality that came with iCloud, but, regardless, developers weren’t exactly enthusiastic. There wasn’t much reason for them to do extra work and adopt a new system that came with little up front benefit. Especially when, in the case of game developers, they already had things like OpenFeint that managed many of the same things."

With Book Creator 2.5 Released With a Fantastic New Sharing Option | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"Book Creator is currently my favorite iPad app for creating multimedia books on your iPad. The app costs $4.99 (less with volume purchasing), but it is well worth it. The latest updates to Book Creator allows you to export your books to ePub 3.0 format. The exported file can be opened an read in the Chrome web browser using the free Readium browser extension. This is a great option as it allows a parent who doesn’t have an iPad at home to view his or her child’s work at home"

These are just some examples among many but they will definitely help you have a general idea of how to create your own activities that meet the specifics of your teaching environment as well as your students learning needs."

What It's Going To Take For Teachers To Give Up Their iPads -

What It's Going To Take For Teachers To Give Up Their iPads - | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"For a variety of reasons (which we’ll get to shortly), the iPad is the pre-dominant technology form in K-12 environments. They dominate blog headlines, promote incredible user loyalty (you could say cultish, but you said it, not me), and make adults drool like teething infants. Walk by any Apple store and through their wide glass storefront you’ll see otherwise rational human beings swoon and fawn, listening intently as Apple experts explain how a slideshow works, how to use iCloud, or how to sync their iPhone with their iPad. School districts buy them, teachers buy them, and parents even send their students to school with them on occasion.

So it makes sense that this kind of popularity would carry over to the classroom. Educators have officially had their curiosity piqued. They want to know how to integrate it into activities, lessons, and curriculum in general, and judging by our traffic patterns here on TeachThought, they come bearing questions."

In Their Own Words with Book Creator

In Their Own Words with Book Creator | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"Today, the children decided to make a book about Pete the Cat and his new white shoes as a retelling.  They used a planning grid to map out their stories.  In Book Creator, they designed the cover and wrote their re-telling.  They illustrated their book by drawing in Doodle Buddy.  Once they finished their entire book, they went back and recorded themselves reading the story (and singing Pete’s song.) How to Find the Magic in an Educational App

How to Find the Magic in an Educational App | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"The concept of how to find the magic in an educational app came up recently during our weekly EducationalAppTalk forum. The question arose, “Why should educational apps be field-tested?” Teachers With Apps field test apps with kids on a regular basis and have found that most often it is the kids who find the MAGIC. The magic happens when really good content comes together with a fun and totally engaging interface. Neither can stand-alone; adults often miss critical components that children find naturally in the course of their play."
