iPads Changed My Classroom | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

" In the summer of 2011, I was awarded a MACUL grant for $1,342. The final requirement for the grant was to provide a summary. I've included links to many of the things that the students did in my classroom last year as a result of having access to these wonderful tools."

Teaching like it's 2999: "...But I don't have a 1:1"

Teaching like it's 2999: "...But I don't have a 1:1" | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"Often I speak to teachers who are so ready to redefine their classrooms but simply don't have the resources to go 1:1 at this time. While I point them to this page to start thinking about grants, there aren't always open funds ready to dole out $15,000+ to teachers. If you are in this situation, and have a projector, laptop, and perhaps one teacher iPad, here is a "recipe" for how you can leverage these devices on a daily basis... and still work some magic. "

Lessons the iPad mini needs to learn from the Nexus7 - Macworld Australia

Lessons the iPad mini needs to learn from the Nexus7 - Macworld Australia | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"Turns out there is one area of the tablet computing universe that Apple doesn’t dominate. When it released the iPad as a brand new class of device at a price that competitors couldn’t match, Apple gained a headstart in this new industry that has only recently been threatened. It took perhaps 18 months and an inadvertent firesale of HP Touchpads at $199 to show iPad-competitors that there was a way to sell tablets in a category the iPad invented – go super cheap."

Solving The Riddle Of Meaningful iPad Integration: Part 1

Solving The Riddle Of Meaningful iPad Integration: Part 1 | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"In lieu of being incredible pieces of hardware with significant learning potential, iPad adoption has produced uneven learning results thus far. In some cases, they enchant learners and encourage practice, creativity, and collaboration, while in other settings they offer up a drudgery and mediocrity of their own to deepen existing excesses of each. The question is, why?"

Steven Blomdale's curator insight, March 6, 2013 7:35 PM

In schools across Australia there is strong support for linking learning in Technologies with learning literacy skills. Learning in Technologies places a high priority on accurate and unambiguous communication (ACARA, 2013).Implementing digital technologies in learning areas such as English allows special education teachers to facilitate and accommodate the learning needs of students. This is achieved through integrating assistive devices such as the iPad and its applications to develop critical literacy skills needed in the 21st century.  Consequently special education teacher have a better opportunity to develop important General capabilities such as literacy (LIT) to allows student to become literate as they develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions to interpret and use language confidently for learning and communicating in and out of school and for participating effectively in society (ACARA, 2013).

This website suggests various applications that can be used on the ipad to assist special needs students. The list of  applications were selected to improve and develop students reading, writing and spelling. They engage the students through making the activities, fun and engaging, which I think is important when teaching special needs students.

Patricia Christian's curator insight, March 22, 2014 8:53 PM

You can never have enough resources to pull from when working with mainstream or challenged students.

I had been planning to install the iOS 6 GM on my iPad for several days and finally got round to it yesterday.
