Record of Reading by Jessica Huegel | iPads in the K-2 Classroom

Record of Reading by Jessica Huegel | iPads in the K-2 Classroom | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"The Record of Reading app is a wonderful tool for increasing organization and simplifying the data collection involved with running records.  This app records the student’s voice and allows the teacher to make running record notations as the student reads.  It includes places for making notes about fluency, the book’s title/level, and the student’s accuracy and self-correction rate.  This app also has a timer for keeping track of reading rate."

Great app for recording a student's reading progress.

A.W.Miller's curator insight, June 4, 2013 3:38 PM

our school started a "BYOD" program last year (that's bring your own device) with what I believe has been a resounding success.  We need more resources like this to help expand what technology can do in our classroom.

Narrate Slideshows With 30hands for iPad

Narrate Slideshows With 30hands for iPad | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"30hands is a free iPad app that makes it very easy to create a narrated slideshow. To create a basic narrated slideshow on 30hands all you need to do is import images from your iPad’s camera roll then press the record button below each image to record your narration. If you don’t have any pictures on your iPad you can take pictures using the 30hands app. 30hands also allows you to draw images instead of importing pictures. You can combine imported pictures with drawn images in your presentations. And you can draw on top of imported images. When your project is complete you can save it on your iPad or share it with the 30hands community."

3 Apps To Create Basic eBooks On An iPad

3 Apps To Create Basic eBooks On An iPad | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"

While the production of book is most natural–for now anyway–on a desktop, tablets like the iPad are improving in capacity here, and the three apps below are excellent examples of that.

While more premium software like Adobe InDesign and Apple iBooks Author are your best bet for sublime eProduct, for a quick project–where more of the time is spent planning and executing instead of learning software–the iPad can work a treat. All three tend towards elementary application, likely because basic images and simple typesetting options."

Wonderful WWF Together App Adds New Jaguar Stories

Wonderful WWF Together App Adds New Jaguar Stories | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"WWF Together is one of the very best iPad apps I’ve ever laid eyes on. I can’t think of too many other apps with such spectacular photos and certainly none with such amazing photos of some of the most beautiful animals on earth. It’s immensely sad to realize that these are also all endangered species.

The app has recently added a couple of new ‘species stories’ on Sharks and the Jaguar. The photos of Jaguars are just incredible and really show what magnificent creatures they are."

Popular Presentation Apps: Student Reviewed

Popular Presentation Apps: Student Reviewed | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"One of the great advantages of having readily available technology in the classroom is the opportunity it provides for students to teach each other. As teachers, we become accustomed to seeing the process and outcome for every student's efforts in the classroom. But when students are given the opportunity to share their work in an engaging way with their peers, learning reaches new heights. "

Ten Reflections on the First Year of an iPad Pilot

Ten Reflections on the First Year of an iPad Pilot | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

Passing out iPads to students on the first day of school was like celebrating Christmas (or in this case Hanukkah)  with thirty antsy kids sitting around the tree,  attempting to hide their impatience.  Once the iPads had been handed out, students were instantly excited, engaged and enchanted with the new learning device in their hands. At first, everyone was confused about where to find work, where to save and store their products – and which app to use for what purpose. As with every pilot, these issues worked themselves out and soon classes were running pretty smoothly. Once they all learned what a “hard reset” was we were on our way. After an exciting year chalked full of learning lessons and changes in our learning landscape here are my takeaways:'
