An Awesome Project by Bill Ferriter's Students! Check Out This Anti-Bullying PSA | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"One of the things that I’ve written a lot about in the past few years is the importance of engaging kids in causes that they care about.  The way I see it, students are more likely to be invested in school when the work that they are doing matters.

To that end, I’ve had the kids in my enrichment period working on an Anti-Bullying PSA over the past few weeks.  Here’s our final product:"

If you can connect your iPad mini to the managing computer with iTunes you should be able to reset it there.

iOS 7 video tip: Making text more readable

iOS 7 video tip: Making text more readable | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"One of the biggest complaints I've heard from people who have made the upgrade to iOS 7 is that they can't read Apple's new favorite typeface -- Helvetica Neue Ultra Light. There's a simple way to make almost everything on your iOS device more readable, and that is to use the Accessibility settings to enable bold text. The result? Well, see for yourself. The image at top left is the "normal" text setting, while the one at right has bold text enabled."

Phonics Studio - A Great App for Learning to Pronounce Words | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"Phonics Studio is a free iPad app that has received glowing reviews from speech-language pathologists. The app provides more than 2,500 flashcards that students can use to practice pronouncing more than 200 sounds. After opening the app students select a letter from the alphabet then a sound. Each sound has a collection of flashcards. To practice pronunciation students can listen to a recording and then create their own recordings (open the preferences panel to turn on the built-in recordings). The person working with a student can mark the student’s recording correct or incorrect."

19 Dr. Seuss iPad Reading Apps Organized By Text Level - TeachThought

19 Dr. Seuss iPad Reading Apps Organized By Text Level - TeachThought | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"Elementary readers–both early, emerging, and independent–are all likely familiar with Dr. Seuss.

From the sing-song meter and mesmerizing cadence, to the outrageous narratives that keep readers engaged, Dr. Seuss books are a staple for elementary school class libraries, and children’s bookshelves at home.

Bringing him into the 21st century are reading apps–usually digital versions of books with mild interactivity added on. Listly user Katherine Page Burdick has gone through the trouble of linking to each of these apps on the iTunes app store, and further separating them by independent reading level. Brilliant! If you agree, give her a follow on Listly letting her know."

I like to start with getting teachers to understand that you don’t use apps to teach concepts. Find apps that allow students to be creative, and integrate projects with the standards you are already teaching."

Word Collage for iPad

Word Collage for iPad is a pretty cool application that helps you create your own word collages fast. Just enter some text or a URL, and the app does the rest for you."

Making word collages is nothing new - Wordle has been out for ages, but this app provides an easy way of doing the same thing on an iPad without worry for formatting issues.

Paula Jamieson's curator insight, October 15, 2013 9:18 PM

It doesn't seem that long ago that "Word Clouds" hit our computer screens in the shape of sites such as Worlde and Tagul etc but this app looks like it does the same for iPad. Again it comes down to "Purpose" - what are you using it for and how are you linking your Word Cloud with other apps etc? Otherwise this app is merely 'Substitution' on the SAMR model isn't it - a fancy list of words.
