App Smashing - What are your favourites? - Edutopia

App Smashing - What are your favourites? - Edutopia | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"So I’ve been playing around with a little bit of App Smashing in my classroom – or App Synergy as it is sometimes called. I just like the smashing part – it must be the cave man in me. Anyway, App Smashing is when you use more than one app to produce a quality final product – it’s when you combine the different capabilities of apps to make something even more impressive than something that is housed entirely within one app. I can’t lay claim to the name, App Smashing – that belongs, as far as I can work out, to fellow ADE Greg Kulowiec, who defined App Smashing as: 'The process of using multiple apps in conjunction with one another to complete a final task or project’. Check out Greg’s website for more information about it."

A Principal's Reflections: Makerspaces Provide a World of Opportunities | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"As of late it seems that I have been blogging a great deal about our makerspace here at New Milford High School and with good reason. Not only is the space being overrun with students during their lunch periods, but teachers here have begun to explore how the process of making can enhance the learning experience for the students in their classes..."

I did, however, featured here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning a few days ago a list of two useful web tools to use for this purpose. These are the tools I have been using myself and trust. I am sharing with you their iPad versions below. Share with us if you know about other apps to add to this list."

iPad Tips: Using Smart Mailboxes on iOS 7 | iPad Insight | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"One of the killer additions to the Mail app in iOS 7 are Smart Mailboxes, which help organize all sent messages, messages with attachments, and more. The VIP mailbox is displayed by default, but you’ll want to tap on the Edit button on the top-right corner of the Mail app to reveal the other Smart Mailboxes."

Creating An iPad Workflow For Teachers, Students, And Parents - TeachThought

Creating An iPad Workflow For Teachers, Students, And Parents - TeachThought | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"Using tablets in the classroom–whether iPads, Androids, or surging Windows devices–is largely a matter of workflow.

If you can forgive a mixed metaphor, the traditional classroom sees the teacher as the both the director and the bottleneck of all productivity. They create assignments, assess proficiency, respond to assessment data, and refine planned instruction in light of constantly changing circumstances.

This is challenging in any context, but in 1:1 and mobile learning environments, it’s even more complex. With tablets, every student has both an information portal and a digital printing press. This means they can reach both communities and potential collaborators.

The above graphic from @ipadwells addresses this issue with a helpful graphic that visualizes a workflow, while offering up representative apps for each step of the process."

6 Ready To Go iPad Centers ~ Mrs. Wideen's Blog | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"A few of the following iPad Centers/Stations I have posted before, however I thought it might be useful to post them again, at the beginning of the year so you know they are here if you want to try something new during your literacy or math block.  All of the centers can be done using one or two iPads at the center and are actual centers that my students used last year.  I hope you find them useful or they spark new ideas to try with your students."

Free Technology for Teachers: Haiku Deck to PowerPoint & PowerPoint to Haiku Deck

Free Technology for Teachers: Haiku Deck to PowerPoint & PowerPoint to Haiku Deck | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"Haiku Deck is a fantastic tool for designing slideshow presentations. The best aspect of Haiku Deck is the built-in Creative Commons image search tool. That tool makes it easy to find high resolution images to match the message of each slide in your presentation. Over the last year I've had a handful of occasions on which used Haiku Deck to find images and design slides before dropping them into Keynote. On the same track, Haiku Deck recently published directions for exporting Haiku Deck to PowerPoint. That option is available in both the iPad and web app versions of Haiku Deck."

Microsoft Office for iPad? A Teacher's Opinion - teachingwithipad.org | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"MS Office was finally made available for the iPad this past week. This is a long-awaited release, almost four years after the release of Apple's tablet. While the apps are all free to download, you are only able to view documents, and will need to pay a rather large subscription fee of $99 every year to be able to use it. Granted, this subscription does include the latest versions Microsoft Office for your home PCs as well."

Suitable for younger students.

Kathb123's curator insight, April 6, 2014 12:30 AM

Using iPads is highly recommended in the school environment where I am doing my prac. Although I haven't met my students yet, I am starting to consider ideas on what they may find interesting and what they could possibly utilise. On the home front, teaching the "outside" world to my "inside" kid can be beneficial. This way he learns where his food comes from and doesn't have to get his hands dirty!
