"Critical Pedagogy includes relationships between teaching and learning. Its proponents claim that it is a continuous process of what they call “unlearning,” “learning,” and “relearning,” “reflection,” “evaluation,” and the impact that these actions have on the students, in particular students whom they believe have been historically and continue to be disenfranchised by what they call “traditional schooling.””"

"Note-taking apps for the iPad come at a dime a dozen. From the more popular offerings such as Evernote and Simplenote to fairly obscure ones, there’s something out there on the App Store for almost every kind of iPad user. And now, with Beesy, from French developers BeesApps the business user is also covered as well. It’s received rave reviews from publications such as MacWorld and was recently featured as an Evernote Pick — a pretty astounding achievement, especially from such a massive and well-established company."

Apps and Sites That Work on All Devices for BYOT

Apps and Sites That Work on All Devices for BYOT | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"“Honestly, I think we should be delighted people still want to read, be it on a Kindle or a Nook or whatever the latest device is.” By J.K. Rowling

With more and more schools launching, ‘Bring Your Own Technology’ or ‘Bringing Your Own Device’ (BYOT/BYOD) I created a symbaloo of all apps and web tools that work on all devices to help educators get started. Even though I am a firm believe, it doesn’t matter what site/app the students use to show mastery of a concept, some educators need a starting place and many have loved this symbaloo so I, of course, want to pass it along."

Jim Harmon's curator insight, Today, 5:50 PM

BYOT is a bit of a sticky wicket, but with proper planning, and an awareness of the differences of devices, it can be a reasonable and cost-effective alternative to a 1:1.

iPads In The Classroom: The Right Questions You Should Ask - Edudemic

iPads In The Classroom: The Right Questions You Should Ask - Edudemic | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"

Arguably, the iPad can be a great classroom tool. However, lately there have been concerns about Apple’s tablet and its current role in the classroom. For instance, many have suggested that some of our schools are making the iPad the center of classrooms instead of remembering that students must be at the center of the classroom. Inevitably, this raises questions about the future of the iPad in the classroom.

Does the iPad foster or hinder creativity? Is it a comprehensive tool or just a mere distraction? Do we use the iPad just because it makes our classroom look cool? Are we missing the forest for the trees here?"

IPad Teaching and Learning

IPad Teaching and Learning | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

`Beginning in our next school year, we are very excited to implement iPads (iPad2 devices) as a tool for collaborative learning in our English and Media faculty. We believe that the technology can enhance our pedagogy, whilst engaging our students in the basics of reading, writing and speaking & listening. We believe that the devices can harness excitement and confidence in our students, unleashing greater creativity and raising literacy standards. By using Apple TV, we will use the devices as a tool for formative assessment, immediately streaming student responses, writing, annotation or presentations and films etc. We are not going for the 1-to-1 model, instead the device will be used as a collaborative tool in groups. A class set will effectively be 7 to 8 iPads.``

Allan Shaw's curator insight, June 18, 6:44 PM

It is interesting and pleasing to note that more people are looking to use digital technologies to address appropriate predefined learning goals that may differ from those that best suit traditional learning goals and pen and paper technologies.

Education News - Report: Schools are Wasting Education Technology's Potential

Education News - Report: Schools are Wasting Education Technology's Potential | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"A report released by the Center for American Progress states that schools are not using technology in a way that benefits students. The United States is spending billions of dollars on technology in schools across the country, yet students are using the equipment for “lower-order skills” like practice and drill programs.

“Our findings suggest that many schools have yet to take full advantage of technology’s ability to improve the art of teaching and the process of learning,” said Ulrich Boser, author of the report and Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress. “In classrooms across the nation, many students are not using technology in very sophisticated ways. Students are too often using computers to do drill and practice instead of more intellectually engaging activities such as using statistical programs or spreadsheets.”"
