"An iPad is a pricey gadget but not necessarily an entirely extravagant purchase. The App Store offers much more than "Angry Birds" and Instagram. Its stock includes educational tools for just about every high school subject and standardized exam. By providing access to no- and low-cost alternatives to other academic expenses such as graphing calculators, textbooks and tutors, iPads have the potential to save families money. "Critical Pedagogy includes relationships between teaching and learning. Its proponents claim that it is a continuous process of what they call “unlearning,” “learning,” and “relearning,” “reflection,” “evaluation,” and the impact that these actions have on the students, in particular students whom they believe have been historically and continue to be disenfranchised by what they call “traditional schooling.””"

IPad Teaching and Learning

IPad Teaching and Learning | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

`Beginning in our next school year, we are very excited to implement iPads (iPad2 devices) as a tool for collaborative learning in our English and Media faculty. We believe that the technology can enhance our pedagogy, whilst engaging our students in the basics of reading, writing and speaking & listening. We believe that the devices can harness excitement and confidence in our students, unleashing greater creativity and raising literacy standards. By using Apple TV, we will use the devices as a tool for formative assessment, immediately streaming student responses, writing, annotation or presentations and films etc. We are not going for the 1-to-1 model, instead the device will be used as a collaborative tool in groups. A class set will effectively be 7 to 8 iPads.``

A good move. Not using iPads or rather some brand of tablet in the 21st century is like not using biros in the 20th.

Education News - Report: Schools are Wasting Education Technology's Potential

Education News - Report: Schools are Wasting Education Technology's Potential | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"A report released by the Center for American Progress states that schools are not using technology in a way that benefits students. The United States is spending billions of dollars on technology in schools across the country, yet students are using the equipment for “lower-order skills” like practice and drill programs.

“Our findings suggest that many schools have yet to take full advantage of technology’s ability to improve the art of teaching and the process of learning,” said Ulrich Boser, author of the report and Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress. “In classrooms across the nation, many students are not using technology in very sophisticated ways. Students are too often using computers to do drill and practice instead of more intellectually engaging activities such as using statistical programs or spreadsheets.”"
