Apple Configurator and VPP Resource Links

"I recently attended an Apple workshop on using Apple Configurator and managing a Volume Purchase Program in schools. I am doing both already, but I i picked up a few useful tips. Participants were also sent some links to Apple resources on both Configurator and the VPP, and I don’t think that some of them are all that well known, so I am listing those below for anyone that might be interested."

From learning about recycling, protecting the environment and appreciating the planet for all it has to offer, we have compiled a list of FREE apps in honor of Earth Day. Oh, and I threw in The Lorax, which is not free, but it highly discounted and well worth the $0.99."

Math is Harder When Using an iPad ~ Mrs. Wideen's Blog

Math is Harder When Using an iPad ~ Mrs. Wideen's Blog | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"I do not use a lot of worksheets in my math program.  So much so, that last week, I gave a worksheet during math to my grade 2 students to do and one of my students cheered.  CHEERED! For a worksheet!  I asked the child in my class why she cheered.  I figured that she would have responded with, "I like worksheets."  If she had answered that way, I would have been fine with that. I believe that we all have our own learning preferences and some children enjoy doing worksheets.  However I would never have anticipated what she said to me.  She responded with,

"I like doing worksheets better than using the iPads because I don't have to think as much.""

Simple Truth: Hashtags Can Save You Time - The Tempered Radical

Simple Truth: Hashtags Can Save You Time - The Tempered Radical | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"If there was ONE thing that I’d want every practicing educator to know about learning in social spaces it would be that no matter what field you are working in, there are TONS of folks who are sharing resources that you can use in your work immediately.

The trick is tracking down those resources quickly and easily.  Just because people are SHARING resources doesn’t automatically mean that you are going to FIND those resources.  Thankfully, practitioners using social spaces for learning are also adding hashtags –short identifiers that start with the # symbol — to the end of their messages."

iTeach 1:1: Student-Created Interactive QR Code Bulletin Boards

iTeach 1:1: Student-Created Interactive QR Code Bulletin Boards | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"It’s no secret that I love using QR codes in my classroom, but this year I’ve been trying to incorporate more student-created QR code activities.  I recently made an inference activity I’ve been doing for years more interactive by turning it into a student-created QR code bulletin board.

After having some fun with this inference riddle website, my students created their own inference riddles in a similar fashion.  I had them type their riddles in Powerpoint and then generate a QR code with their top-secret answer.  To generate the QR code, they went to QRStuff.com and clicked the “Plain Text” option.  Then they typed their answer in the text box and clicked “Download QR Code.”  The last step was to drag the QR code into their Powerpoint presentation."

Using tablets to reach kids with autism - CNN TECH

Using tablets to reach kids with autism - CNN TECH | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"Two 5-year-old boys, one with autism, were having some friendly playtime when they had a communication breakdown. One boy didn't respond to the other and walked away. The ignored kid got frustrated and pushed over a small staircase, causing the first boy to fall.

Their speech therapist, Jordan Sadler, decided to address the issue by recreating it in an iPad app called Puppet Pals. She restaged the scenario as a movie, even taking photos of the room for the background and of the kids for the characters. Using the app to show an instant replay of the scuffle, Sadler and the kids identified what went wrong and then recreated the scene, this time making better decisions.

Creating custom stories to help kids learn communication skills or understand complex situations is just one of the ways parents, therapists and educators have taken advantage of tablets to work with kids with autism."

More on Augmented Reality in Kindergarten - iTeach with iPads | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"One thing young children are not lacking in is imagination.  They have no trouble pretending, playing make believe and suspending reality.  We’ve recently crossed over into the augmented reality arena. Augmented Reality (AR) allows for a digitally enhanced view of the real world. It allows the user to open or create layers of digital information on top of the physical world that can be viewed through a mobile device.  I’ve talked about our first foray in AR with Aurasma app here.  Aurasma is a great tool, and now my student’s are using the Chromville app to create in their own Augmented Reality worlds.
