And with iPad screens now approaching 13″ and capable of supporting USB connections to enable standalone keyboards, it’s easier and more comfortable than ever to draft a masterpiece while away from your desk with the help of an app, an iPad, and a good idea."

iPad has been increasingly adopted as an instructional tool in classrooms especially in the north American context. As a versatile device, iPad provides boundless learning and teaching opportunities that were to the recent past unthought of. In today’s post, we are highlighting some of the basic skills or activities every teacher using or planning to use iPad in class should be aware of. For each of these skills we provided 3 suggested apps to help you cultivate the skill under question. Of course, the selection of both the skills and apps is subjective and based  entirely on our own experience of using iPad and reviewing apps. The 10 skills we believe are integral to every iPad integration in education include: create presentations, create digital stories, create video content, create animated tutorials, take notes, create educational visuals, create digital portfolios, create books, create audio recordings, and create mind maps.

While other subject teachers are more accustomed to books, videos and websites as resources, Music teachers are accustomed to using a much wider gamut of tools - instruments. If we can encourage Music teachers to view the iPad as another instrument and a vehicle by which children can make genuinely music progress, then we are well on the way to making the most of this 21st century resource.

The iPad as a Laptop Replacement- Part One

The iPad as a Laptop Replacement- Part One | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it
This is certainly ground that has been covered in MANY articles, both before and after the release of the new 10.5” and 12.9” iPad Pros, and for plenty of reason. Apple’s marketing has placed the iPad Pro squarely in the conversation as a primary computing device, and encouraged this kind of examination. However, because the conversations tend to center around those of us in the Apple blogosphere and the tech community at large think, they usually focus on the iPad as a laptop replacement for US as “power users,” rather than more typical users.

Finally, there's finally a good reason to upgrade your iPad

Finally, there's finally a good reason to upgrade your iPad | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it
Apple's biggest challenge with the iPad is convincing people who already own one to buy a newer version. I've been using my iPad Air 2 everyday since 2014 for reading news, checking Twitter, and watching videos, and I could probably keep using it until it stops working.

I don't actually need a new iPad to continue doing any of these things, but I've finally found a compelling reason to get one: photo editing.

Apple is making photo editing way more simple in the new Photos app in iOS 11 — and it's the only way I want to do things now.

Google Earth for iPad Now Equal to Android Version - Free Tech 4 Teachers @rmbyrne

Google Earth for iPad Now Equal to Android Version - Free Tech 4 Teachers @rmbyrne | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it
Back in April Google introduced a completely new version of Google Earth for Android and for use in your web browser. This week that new version finally arrived for iPhone and iPad users.

Like the Android version of Google Earth, the iOS version features a "voyager" mode for taking virtual tours of places around the world. The iOS version of Google Earth now includes "knowledge cards" that pop-up when you search or browse a location. Knowledge Cards include a small slideshow of images of location and some text about a location. And if you just want to lucky dip around the world, you can choose "I'm feeling lucky" and have Google Earth for iOS take you to a randomly selected location where you'll find Knowledge Cards to view.

How to Search for a Reminder on iPhone and iPad - OSXDaily

How to Search for a Reminder on iPhone and iPad - OSXDaily | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it
If you’re frequently adding Reminders to your iPhone or iPad through Siri or to return phone calls, you may quickly arrive at having dozens if not hundreds of reminders stored in the iOS app. Rather than wade through them all one by one, the Reminders app has a nice feature that allows you to search for a specific reminder directly, making it much easier to locate or retrieve an old mental note or any other digital nudge you have created.

Reminders can be searched at any time, but obviously you will need to have at least one reminder in your Reminders app to be able to search for something and have something retrieved that matches it. Realistically, this feature is best used when you have many reminders, old and new, and need to quickly find a particular one.

Apple aims to get an iPad in the hands of every hospital patient

Apple aims to get an iPad in the hands of every hospital patient | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it
Apple has made great strides in health in the last few years and if it gets its way, there will be an iPad in the hands of every hospital patient.

It’s already started with a smattering of hospitals around the U.S. including Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego, MetroSouth Medical Center in Chicago and about a year ago at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles.

Earlier this week, I went down to L.A. to take a tour of Cedars-Sinai‘s pilot program allowing patients direct access to their vitals, care team and educational tools through iPads.

Doctors are already adept at using mobile devices and many have been using iPads in their practices for a number of years now, but allowing patient’s access to their own information is still a novel idea in the medical world. Cedars has been somewhat ahead of the curve with the creation of its EHR software My CS-Link, which allows patients to look up their information online, including notes from their doctor.
