when iPads are locked down it will mean there is no use of ICT.  It cannot be locked down. ICT  is the best tool for making our education better. children are interested on the technology, so when we bring it in the classroom, they will also be interested on learning. it also important in creating effective learning, help teachers to provide more explanations of the content.

iPads in Education: Five Tips for Teachers Introducing Devices to the Classroom | The Digital Media Diet

iPads in Education: Five Tips for Teachers Introducing Devices to the Classroom | The Digital Media Diet | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"Last year I volunteered in my child’s Kindergarten class daily for an hour with our family’s three iPads. I learned a lot about selecting educational content (primarily early math & literacy apps) and how to set up an environment most conducive for learning. I was most impressed by the potential for mobile devices to improve the experience in class for both teachers and students. So this year I volunteered to bring our iPads into my child’s First grade class once a week for ‘buddy reading’. As I do more outreach and training for local teachers in my community, I am surprised at the large number of classrooms getting devices without any guidelines about how to integrate them into their existing institutional structures or curriculum. From these experiences, I have come up with the following five tips for starting a new program in any classroom …"

The iPad is so much more than a consumption device. Here are some great tips for using it more collaboratively.

Kim Sheehy's curator insight, May 28, 2013 5:54 AM

Jennie Magiera is a digital learning coordinator of 25 public schools in Chicago. She identifies Schoololgy as being her favourite iPad App for fostering collaboration. It is free and includes important discussion features including interactions displayed on a timeline.

This can be useful for teachers to monitor student questions and answers to problem based learning in the classroom. Students are able to see and respond to each other’s posts while providing the teacher with good knowledge of student learning and understanding of the content. It also provides opportunities for all students to have input.

This resource could be used with students to support the Australian Curriculum: Technologies processes and production skills sub-strand of Creating and interacting online - 4.7 Manage the creation, sharing and exchange of information with known audiences and apply agreed social protocols to protect people when communicating online.

25 Top Concept-Mapping Tools For Visual Learning

25 Top Concept-Mapping Tools For Visual Learning | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"Concept-mapping–or mind-mapping, idea-mapping, or some other variation that makes sense to you–is the practice of demonstrating the relationship between ideas in a map-like form.

Concept-mapping allows creators to articulate nuance, context, and interdependence between ideas in a very user-centered way. This makes them especially useful in education, whether you use them for pre-writing, research notes, or “back-mapping” a unit or unit assessment. They encourage macro-thinking, can provide a bridge to struggling writers who have trouble turning their thinking into prose, and are a powerful tool for visual learning."

Educational apps are popping up daily, but the question for parents is, how to know which ones are worth using, and which ones are not? Paula Jamieson's curator insight, May 7, 2013 7:05 PM

Maybe this is something that you've always wanted to do? Have your iPad apps organized in alphabetical order. This would be a nightmare for me (a visual learner) as more often than not I don't necessarily know the name of the app but I know what the icon looks like (or the folder that I have put it into). I choose to organize my apps into folders eg ABC's, Word Work, Nurturing Thinking etc. Keep in mind though I use my device predominantly for 'modelling' and to inform others so I have hundreds (did I say hundreds.....my 64gb device is almost full AGAIN).

If though, you have individual devices assigned to your classroom that are not jam packed with too many Apps, this may be just the thing for you!

John Pearce's curator insight, May 8, 2013 9:39 PM

I must admit that I prefer to organise my apps under folders according to type, (though there are times that this system also 'lets me down'). This could be a useful strategy for user who have quite a few screens of apps.
