Set AirDrop in iOS to be Discoverable by Contacts Only for Added Privacy - OSX Daily

Set AirDrop in iOS to be Discoverable by Contacts Only for Added Privacy - OSX Daily | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"Those of us who regularly use AirDrop on the iPhone or iPad and leave the function frequently turned on for share requests may want to take a moment to adjust a simple privacy setting for the feature, allowing your iOS device to be only discoverable by Contacts. This prevents AirDrop requests coming in from random or unknown users, which if you’ve ever been in a busy office or place crowded with many iPhone and iPads, you may have encountered yourself."

A Wonderful Visual on How to Use SAMR Model On Different Classroom Tasks ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

A Wonderful Visual on How to Use SAMR Model On Different Classroom Tasks ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

"In this quick post I want to share with you this beautiful interactive image on the SAMR model. I learned about this resource from a tweet shared by our colleague David Fife. As you can see from the image below, iPadders provided examples of how to use each classroom task according to the different SAMR categories. And in each category, a set of apps and tools are provided to help you carry out the task under study. I invite you to have a look and share with your colleagues. Enjoy"

Another example of SAMR model.

Ness Crouch's curator insight, February 23, 2014 6:23 PM

I've heard a lot about SMAR but never really taken the time to look into it. It might be time now that I'm looking at integrating more technology into my classroom. This model clearly supports technology and expects the use of it.

Richard Whiteside's curator insight, February 27, 2014 6:42 PM

Explains a lot about how digital tech can help, though on investigation this seems to be a model developed seemingly from nowhere without much academic work behind it. Example of a simple model stating the obvious? Does it matter that it's origins are hazy? Having had the chance to look into it and its creator, it's interesting to note how popular it is and how accepted it is, without much critique. Is it really that great a model?! Just wondering! Raises a lot of questions.

This resource offers a great variety of free iPad apps for social studies content. Although it fails to detail each app in the browser, it links you to a detailed description and "How To" for each app. I personally like "Old and New: Primary Sources in the 21st Century" and Changing America on iPads. Great apps to try for all of those beginning or already instituting iPads into their classroom.

Brew Your Own Personalized PD (EdSurge Guides) | iPads in Education | Scoop.it

Personalized learning is on the rise for learners in our schools. Redesigned schools include personal learning plans, playlists of content tailored to fit each learner, adaptive curriculum, and access to learning anytime and anywhere.

That's great for students but what about teachers? Where's the personalized learning, the carefully constructed playlists, the pitch-perfect material that fits their grade level and subject needs and interests?

Note sure I agree with 'sit at a table or chair'. iPads are great because they make learning mobile. By implementing this rule, you take this away. In my classroom, you see kids scattered around the room and on the veranda outside, sitting where they feel comfortable. We just have a rule that you can't leave the iPad unattended on the floor.
