What makes an outstanding iPad lesson?

What makes an outstanding iPad lesson? | Apps and iPads for teaching | Scoop.it

""Technology is in no way a synonym for ‘outstanding.’ But, it is something that can facilitate that outcome again and again. It can seem melodramatic to say things like ‘iPads have changed the world,’ but they have. The very fact that there is a debate within educational establishments across the world as to whether they and their likenesses are the key to unlocking the future of learning should show all the sceptics that technology is not going away. It is something that needs to be embraced and explored. So what does an outstanding iPad lesson look like?"

50 Resources For Teaching With iPads - Te@chThought | Apps and iPads for teaching | Scoop.it
So we thought we’d start an ongoing collection–that is, one that is updated to reflect trends and changes–of the best resources for teaching with the iPad.

This will include resources from all of the best sources, from Apple’s own stuff to TeachThought to edutopia to MindShift to DMLCentral to Jackie Gerstein and more. We can update it, or make it a wiki to crowdsource the process, or you can add suggestions in the comments below. Based on the activity of the comments, and the sharing of the post, we’ll decide how to handle it moving forward.

The 21st Century Principal: Oyster: E-Book Susbcription Service App for iOS and Android Devices---NetFlix of E-Books?

The 21st Century Principal: Oyster: E-Book Susbcription Service App for iOS and Android Devices---NetFlix of E-Books? | Apps and iPads for teaching | Scoop.it

"As an avid reader, last night, I downloaded Oyster, the subscription book service app to my iPad, just to check it out. There are many times when I read a book, I am not necessarily interested in purchasing a copy, but would still like to read it in e-book format.

Some are calling Oyster, the Netflix of e-books, and upon opening the app, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of books available. I even found the titles of several books on my reading list that I’ve been planning to read. Oyster, gives you access to book titles for a monthly subscription fee of $9.95. Right now, I am using a trial of the service, so I am personally undecided whether or not it’s worth my while to pay the month fee. It also remains to be seen whether the e-book service can provide access to an increasing number of titles, but the idea is appealing, especially to someone like me who enjoys access to a book any way I can get it."

A Must See Chart on SAMR Model and iPad Teaching ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

A Must See Chart on SAMR Model and iPad Teaching ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Apps and iPads for teaching | Scoop.it

"Technology integration in instruction is a process that starts with setting out clearly defined objectives and ends with assessing learning outcomes against these objectives, and all along the way several tools and strategies are employed to attend to the overall performance of this process. Hence, the first question teachers need to ponder when thinking about using technology in class is not what kind of technology to use but what do they want to achieve behind using this technology? On a deeper level, they need to find answers to questions such as: Does this technology constitute a a good addition to the learning task ?  Can the same learning task be performed without using technology? These and several other questions  should come to the forefront when you start planning a technology-based learning activity.

How to use AirDrop - iOS 7’s most important new feature for teachers - teachingwithipad.org

How to use AirDrop - iOS 7’s most important new feature for teachers - teachingwithipad.org | Apps and iPads for teaching | Scoop.it

"When Apple announced Airdrop this past June, I knew it would be a great feature for teachers with iPads. A common complaint about iPads in the classroom was that it wasn’t necessarily easy to transfer student work in the Camera Roll to the teacher. With no USB connection and no SD card slot, how was a teachersupposed to collect student work? Email would work for small files, but videos were much too large to send. Dropbox could be a solution, but that would require students to set up their own accounts, problematic if they are under a certain age. Enter AirDrop, a seamless and very quick way to transfer files via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections between “nearby” devices."

Creating An iPad Workflow For Teachers, Students, And Parents - TeachThought

Creating An iPad Workflow For Teachers, Students, And Parents - TeachThought | Apps and iPads for teaching | Scoop.it

"Using tablets in the classroom–whether iPads, Androids, or surging Windows devices–is largely a matter of workflow.

If you can forgive a mixed metaphor, the traditional classroom sees the teacher as the both the director and the bottleneck of all productivity. They create assignments, assess proficiency, respond to assessment data, and refine planned instruction in light of constantly changing circumstances.

This is challenging in any context, but in 1:1 and mobile learning environments, it’s even more complex. With tablets, every student has both an information portal and a digital printing press. This means they can reach both communities and potential collaborators.

The above graphic from @ipadwells addresses this issue with a helpful graphic that visualizes a workflow, while offering up representative apps for each step of the process."
