That about sums it up...However as a teacher spends more time with the iPad and is able to use it as tool to help extend the walls of the classroom, and sees how students collaborate, problem solve, and create the teacher realizes that the iPad is just a tool and it is how he/she uses it in class that will make all the difference in the world.  Kinda like IWB; once upon a time if you had an IWB in your classroom regardless of how it was being used one thought they were effectively integrating technology in the curriculum.  Now many classrooms do not have IWB because they are not student centered!

This is a very interesting article that I enjoyed reading very much. Since I already use iPads in the classroom, I was reflecting on how to engage with other non-iPad users and how to encourage them to use the iPads effectively. I liked how on number 7 talks about utilizing content-creation apps and not just content-specific apps. I usually try using applications that are generic and that can be used for multiple subjects. My students really like using shadow puppet to teach different lessons or explain something they learned. These types of applications are not limited just to one specific subject and are perfect for students to get exposed to technology that embraces creativity and higher levels of thinking.

36 Core Teacher Apps For Inquiry Learning With iPads - TeachThought

36 Core Teacher Apps For Inquiry Learning With iPads - TeachThought | iPads For Instruction | Scoop.it

"The interest in inquiry-based learning seems to ebb and flow based on–well, it’s not clear why it ever ebbs.

In short, it is a student-centered, Constructivist approach to learning that requires critical thinking, and benefits from technology, collaboration, resourcefulness, and other modern learning skills that never seem to fall out of favor themselves.

Regardless, St Oliver Plunkett Primary School has put together two very useful images that can help you populate your iPad–or classroom of iPads–with apps that support both inquiry-based learning (the second image below), and a more general approach to pedagogy based on Apple’s uber-popular tablet (the top image)."

R.Conrath, Ed.D.'s insight:

Title: Easybib: An Online Research Resource Students Shouldn’t Be Without; Presenter: Russ Conrath

I went to this session as my school has considered purchasing a site license for EasyBib. Russ did a great job going over the highlights and features available to pro account users. EasyBib Pro is not all that expensive considering the size of my student population. Russ had a nice compilation of student and teacher testimonials in video format. He showed us his screencasts that he has made available to students to refresh/remind them how to use it if he is unavailable. NICE. Russ compared using this tool to math classes using scientific calc; we still teach concept, but the tool makes it less painful to apply the concept in citing a source. TRUE THAT! The site has plenty of perks as well, like searching the web right from EasyBib. EasyBib can do the web evaluation for a user, making that part of the research process easier as well. I don’t know if all my classes would use this, but I am thinking some would love it! We may take a more serious look into this purchase again.
