""The intuitive mind is a sacred gift, the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift." - Albert Einstein

We do not need to teach creativity, but rather inspire its daily practice. Somewhere along the way, we simply forgot to honor this innate gift and how to access its power. Our role as educators is to encourage learning experiences that increase the ability to recognize and listen to our inner voice."

Rebecca Louise Melia's curator insight, April 9, 6:32 PM

After researching their own life and milestones, students can create a list of significant events and then use this simple app to create a timeline of their lives. Timelines can be made using "before birth", and then each year of age so far. Creating a timeline can also be linked mathematics as it involves "sequencing events" (Mae-13MG) (Board of Studies, NSW, 2014).

The finished timeline acts as a form of formative assessment, as it is a physical representation of their understanding of life events and their ability to use the technology. Students can be questioned about their work to assess their progress - In order to do this successfully students should be asked some closed questions, followed by open-ended questions, requiring some explanation (McMillan, 2011, p.118). Questions could include "What would come next on your timeline?" and "Do you think everyone would have the same timeline as you? Why?".

edutopia: Creating an Authentic Maker Education Rubric

edutopia: Creating an Authentic Maker Education Rubric | iPads | Scoop.it
While many teachers are excited about the maker movement and may even be creating projects for their classrooms, assessment can be puzzling even to veteran classroom teachers. How can teachers prove that deep, rich learning is occurring through making? How do we justify a grade to students and parents alike, especially to the student who "just isn’t good at art"? By crafting a three-part rubric that assesses process, understanding, and product, teachers can rest assured that they are covering all the bases.
