50 Apps That Clarify 50 New Ways To Learn - te@chthought

50 Apps That Clarify 50 New Ways To Learn - te@chthought | iPads and Mobile Learning in Higher Education | Scoop.it

"Below we’ve gathered a diverse list of learning apps across iOS and Android from giants like Google, Apple, Microsoft, as well as upstarts like Brainfeed, The Sandbox, and Knowji. None of the apps are perfect, but each app does something special, and in that talent represents what’s possible as we careen towards 2020 and beyond.

Learning through play. Self-directed learning. Flipped learning. Mobile learning. Collaborative learning. Social learning. It’s all here. Alone, none offer the turn-key approach to education that textbooks have traditionally turned to. But this is a strength. As education technology grows, we can adapt to new learning models that take advantage of the fragmented but enormous potential of self-directed, creative, collaborative, and almost entirely mobile learning."

Sharon Altena's insight:

InstaGrok is a great utility to support student research. Students are often overwhelmed with the options a Google search generates for assignment/research topic. InstaGrok visually represents a research topic as a mindmap showing the relationship between key ideas and can be drilled into to explore the topic more deeply. It provides students with an overview of the topic, key ideas as well as links to video and other resources for further research. Also includes a journal and quiz tool.

Nice iPad app for creating Infographics on the iPad.  This version costs $2.99 but a free version is also available if you want to try before you buy.  A thought ... Perhaps getting students to create an Infographic as an assessment task might be an alternative to a written assessment task.

Finally, a USB Thumb Drive for the Latest iPhones and iPads

The iStick lets you transfer a wide variety of files between a Mac or PC and iOS devices with Lightning connectors.
Sharon Altena's insight:

The iPad is often criticized because of its inability to use USB sticks, however, very shortly the iStick with a Lightning connector will be released that will allow you to transfer files from the iPad to  computers.  Although I have learned to live without a USB stick, love Dropbox and other cloud services and can't imagine going back to USB sticks, it will be really useful offline storage particularly for those who are running out of space on their iPad, although the price might hold some people back.
