5 ways to utilize iPad backgrounds & lockscreens | Technology Erintegration | iPads 4 Education | Scoop.it
You may not have thought much about the iPad background screens of student iPads.  Whether you share a cart with your grade level or have a small set to use or even have 1:1 iPads in the classroom, the iPad background screen is key real estate that you want to integrate into your iPad management plan.  Students look at the lock screen every time they open their iPads and the background whenever they switch apps.    Here are 5 ways to utilize that space:

10 reasons teachers do NOT use education technology - Daily Genius

10 reasons teachers do NOT use education technology - Daily Genius | iPads 4 Education | Scoop.it
There are plenty of reasons teachers do not use education technology. It’s expensive. It’s hard to always find a reason to implement edtech into a particular lesson. That’s all true and valid, really.

But what are the other big reasons that teachers don’t use technology in the classroom? We did a little digging through surveys, social media, blogs, reports, and the Daily Genius community to uncover the top 10 reasons that edtech is getting passed over. The results might (or might not) surprise you.

Over the school holidays I have been playing around with an app called Aurasma, in the hope of creating an activity for reading groups to enhance our vocabulary studies. We already do a number of activities with iPads that enhance explicit vocabulary instruction, but this is going to be different. I think this activity is going to blow the kids away, and I’m so looking forward to seeing their faces when they use it for the first time.

Trisha Collins's curator insight, June 19, 2014 7:33 PM

Too often the word on the street is “my school or class has new iPads but we don’t know what to do with them.” The best part about these devices is that they get the learning into the actual hands of students- make learning “hands-on.” That is NOT a new concept. Dewey, Montessori, David Kolb knew this long before the digital age- constructivism is one of the most effective ways to learn anything.

100 Awesome STEM Resources - Milk and Cookies

100 Awesome STEM Resources - Milk and Cookies | iPads 4 Education | Scoop.it
Why is STEM important? In short, the future job market will revolve around science. This includes all forms of technology, engineering and math. 80% of jobs in the future will require technology skills. Statistics today show that there will be a drastic shortage of job applicants in the next decade with the skills and knowledge to fill these new positions. While only 4% of the nation’s workforce is composed of scientists and engineers, this group creates jobs for the other 96% of the workforce (source). The average professional with a STEM-related degree earns more than double the average national wage. About 3 million jobs are currently unfilled because Americans lack the basic STEM skills needed for the positions (source).

But technology may be able to help. This list, for example. We’ve offered ideas in the past to helpteachers save time, but those can only do so much. As can these apps, but every little bit helps, yes? Your workload, grade level, school climate, personal organizational habits–even beliefs about what a teacher is supposed to be and do all matter more than an app, but if you’re mobile and connected, you at least have a chance.

From RSS readers to social readers to to-do lists to calendar apps to note-taking and cloud-based document editing and more, this list has to have something that can improve the efficiency of what you do.

How Much Data Is Generated On Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Tinder & WhatsApp Every Minute? | AllTwitter | iPads 4 Education | Scoop.it

Here’s the thing: the internet never sleeps.

Which means data never sleeps, and the internet sure likes to use up a lot of it. How much? In any given minute, 277,000 tweets are published on Twitter, 216,000 photos are sent to Instagram and 8,333 videos are shared on Vine.

And we’re just getting started. Over that same 60 second period, 347,222 photos are sent on WhatsApp, 416,667 swipes are made on Tinder and 3,472 images are pinned on Pinterest.

And if you think that’s impressive, Google receives 4 millions search queries, Facebook users share 2.46 million pieces of content and 204 million email messages are sent each and every minute of the day.

This visual from DOMO looks at how much data is generated every minute across the net....

Part of that is almost unavoidable – these technologies form a huge part of our daily lives, and it is really difficult to try not to compare that with the reality that you lived as a younger person. That thought was prominent in my head when I stumbled across this graphic the other day. It takes a modern, technological view of the alphabet.
