Mystery Math Town – Take the Mystery out of Math! - The Wonder of Tech

Mystery Math Town – Take the Mystery out of Math! - The Wonder of Tech | ipadinschool | Scoop.it

"f you have a child who is befuddled by math, loves games, or both, you need to check out Mystery Math Town. This brand spanking new app is so very much fun that the only mystery will be how to get your iPad back from your kids once they start playing it.

Mystery Math Town is from Artgig Studios, the developer who brought you Marble Math, Alien Buddies and Shake-a-Phrase (see, Fun Apps to Entertain (and Educate) Your Child), and is filled with high quality images and sounds. The app is designed for kids ages 6-12, but I quickly discovered that adults can have fun playing this game too! The app takes you on a journey through Mystery Math Town, navigating through houses and solving math problems to achieve your goals."

Tony Vincent's Learning in Hand - Blog - The Single Most Important Factor for iPad Success in Schools

Tony Vincent's Learning in Hand - Blog - The Single Most Important Factor for iPad Success in Schools | ipadinschool | Scoop.it

"The Technology Enhanced Learning Research Group, lead by Kevin Burden from the University of Hull, investigated the use of iPads at eight different schools in Scotland. The study took place between March and summer 2012 and analysis was completed in October 2012.

The researchers found that "personal 'ownership' of the device is seen as the single most important factor for successful use of this technology." They found ownership is fundamental for increasing students levels of motivation, interest, and engagement. Personal ownership promotes greater student autonomy and self-efficacy. Best of all, ownership encourages students to take more responsibility for their learning."

"The power of Twitter resides in the kind of connections and networks it allows you to make.Twitter is by far the social networking platform that teachers and educators populate the most. As such, creating a personal/professional learning network comprising kindred others is as easy as participating in the weekly educational chats organized on Twitter (#edchat as an example). These meet-ups enable you  to meet and connect with teachers from all around the globe. They also introduce you to a treasure trove of information, resources, links, tips, and learning experiences that can be leveraged for your own purposes."

"In their attempts to establish a 1:1 program for the year 6 class, St Oliver Plunket has recently held a series of workshops in order to develop their students skills before they were officially given management of their very own devices.

The workshops were particularly centered around teaching students about some tips and tricks for managing their iPad, email etiquette, successful searching and copyright and creative commons. I personally was thrilled by the efforts these people from St Oliver are putting into making their 1:1 program a success and I hope other schools would do the same."
