BYOD is becoming more and more popular. Please don't confuse students using this just to text and play games. If you teach students that technology such as this is a tool for education and show them how to use it, they will.

silvermanmc's curator insight, June 1, 11:21 AM

We all need some down time, on the one hand, and many of us need to stretch our brains, on the other hand.  Smart phones with appropriate apps can be used for polling, note sharing, quizzes... try one app first as part of your class time.

Virtual Frog Dissection on Your iPad

Virtual Frog Dissection on Your iPad | iPad Apps for Education | Scoop.it

"Frog Dissection for iPad is an app that is popular with biology teachers. The latest version of the app includes more labels, quizzes, and videos. Of course, the main purpose of the app still remains. That purpose is to provide a virtual environment in which students can dissect a frog just as they would if they had a frog and a scalpel in your classroom. The app provides step-by-step directions for students to follow as they virtually dissect their frogs."

11 Mind Mapping Apps for the iPad

11 Mind Mapping Apps for the iPad | iPad Apps for Education | Scoop.it

Mind mapping is a method that works for quite a lot of people. Brain storming, idea mapping, thought generation, think tanks – call it what you will. Traditionally done on large pieces of paper, why not use your iPad to create mind maps? You could use these for your own purposes, or “convert” those large flip charts into a smaller, digital version.

Reaching Different Learning Styles With The iPad

Reaching Different Learning Styles With The iPad | iPad Apps for Education | Scoop.it

"How do you learn best?  For me, it depends on what I am learning.  Sometimes I need to take notes, other times I need to think out loud.  Some things are easier to learn with another person while with other things, I need to be alone.  My guess is most of us have different styles for learning depending on what it is we are working on."

iPads in the classroom – A development of a taxonomy for the use of iPads in schools

The investigation shows that almost all objectives, teaching tasks and concepts of thecurriculum can be promoted with the aid of tablet computers. Nevertheless, a lot ofprerequisites in terms of hardware and software are required for a successful integration of tablets. In addition, there are some drawbacks, such as the lack of teacher training and slower text production.

PadGadget’s iPad Tips: App Organization | PadGadget

PadGadget’s iPad Tips: App Organization | PadGadget | iPad Apps for Education | Scoop.it

"So you’ve had your iPad for a while now, and you are starting to find it difficult to remember where all of your apps are. Maybe you have a few go-to apps that you have memorized the location of, but where did that birthday card making app go that you downloaded three months ago?

If you have more apps than you know what to do with, it is time to weed out the old ones and organize what you want to keep into folders for quick access."

No one goes to the hardware store to buy a drill; they go because they need to make a hole in something. So, I organize my apps by verbs, not nouns: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1477426/How%20to%20Organize%20App%20on%20your%20ipad.png

iPad Tip ~ How to Instantly Organize Apps in Alphabetical Order

iPad Tip ~ How to Instantly Organize Apps in Alphabetical Order | iPad Apps for Education | Scoop.it

"If you love to keep your apps organized, we have a great tip for you today. By going to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Home Screen Layout, your iPad will not only reorganize all stock apps to their default positions, but also organize all non-stock apps in alphabetical order."

Via John Evans
Paula Jamieson's curator insight, May 7, 7:05 PM

Maybe this is something that you've always wanted to do? Have your iPad apps organized in alphabetical order. This would be a nightmare for me (a visual learner) as more often than not I don't necessarily know the name of the app but I know what the icon looks like (or the folder that I have put it into). I choose to organize my apps into folders eg ABC's, Word Work, Nurturing Thinking etc. Keep in mind though I use my device predominantly for 'modelling' and to inform others so I have hundreds (did I say hundreds.....my 64gb device is almost full AGAIN).

If though, you have individual devices assigned to your classroom that are not jam packed with too many Apps, this may be just the thing for you!

John Pearce's curator insight, May 8, 9:39 PM

I must admit that I prefer to organise my apps under folders according to type, (though there are times that this system also 'lets me down'). This could be a useful strategy for user who have quite a few screens of apps.

Rebecca Penina Simon's comment, May 10, 3:33 PM
I definitely understand - my 32 GB iPad is completely full. I have to keep deleting and reinstalling the apps that I do need to use.
