How To Start Developing Your Own Apps
Topics: android, apps, developer, guide, How To, infographic, iPad, iphone

Software development is going mobile, bringing applications to phones, laptops and tablets everywhere, including the classroom.

- Gartner predicts that by 2015 mobile app development projects will outnumber PC application projects by 4 to 1.
- Mobile app developers are reaping the benefits of 45 percent year over year employment growth, according to Bloomberg BusinessWeek.
- Dice.com reported a 100 percent increase in job posting for mobile app developers between 2010 and 2011.

Developers with the right mix of skills can find boundless opportunity in the multibillion-dollar mobile app industry. Mobile app developers hail from different walks of life—A software engineer, a tech-savvy business entrepreneur or a web designer may have what it takes to create the next top-selling app.

The common piece of the puzzle is some sort of computer programming training, whether it’s a certificate in a specific language like HTML5 or a bachelor’s degree in software development.

With the rapid growth of the mobile medium, some colleges and universities are adding specialized undergraduate degree programs in mobile app development. Check out this fabulously useful infographic from Schools.com for more information:

How To Capture Ideas Visually With The iPad

How To Capture Ideas Visually With The iPad | ipad2learn #iPad #E-Learning #schreiben #lernen #m-learning | Scoop.it

"Visual recording is what it sounds like it’d be. As opposed to recording audio, visual recording captures visuals, though not necessarily in photographic form. The process of visually capturing ideas with the iPad isn’t terribly complex in concept. If you can think of concept-mapping, you’ve halfway there."

[...] The following video does an excellent job of exploring this idea, answering the following questions:

1. What is visual recording?

2. What tools (and apps) are available to make it work?

3. What do you need to understand to be able to do it?

4. Post-production, what do you do with the recordings when you’ve finished?

Thank you for follwoing my topic. I hope that it is helpful for you. I like what I see at your site. Also, I am curious about the conference on your other scoop.it site. It would be great if I could attend or present next time. I would be happy to stay in contact to learn more.

I am not a doodler, though my video work obviously requires thinking visually.  I am exploring the world of visual notetaking which has always fascinated me, plus I've seen several people  using sketches on Periscope videos to communicate concepts on the new platform. Looks like fun, either by hand or with apps.

As the movement to get moving continues, look for more students asking for innovative ways to deliver presentations, share their thoughts, or just create. If your students are about to present or share in front of the class, they may want to try out a few of these sound recording / song creation tools. This could be great for project-based learning, shy students, or a flipped classroom.

Best of all, you only need a standard computer. No fancy iPad or smartphones required. Look for an in-depth look into this in the upcoming September issue of the Edudemic Magazine for iPad. In the meantime, try out these tools and let us know how it goes. My personal favorite is Incredibox but Jamstudio is also quite great. What’s your favorite?

The current media landscape is changing and growing at a fast pace which is increasingly affecting the school sector. Numerous schools all over the world have already focused on the value added to lessons by tablet computers, such as Apple’s iPad. A myriad of learning applications and ways to transfer subject matters are provided on and through such devices. However, at the present time, there is little experience with respect to the didactically reasonable inclusion of tablets in schools. Therefore, the motivation of this book, which is based on a diploma thesis, is to provide a general overview of the didactical integration of tablets, in this case, Apple’s iPad. Within a field experiment educational apps are being tested and evaluated according to the Austrian curriculum for foreign languages as well as iOS Human Interface Guidelines that focus on user interface and user experience.

Apps in Education: Managing Individual Education Programs (IEP) on the iPad | ipad2learn #iPad #E-Learning #schreiben #lernen #m-learning | Scoop.it

ndividual Education Programs (IEP) can be difficult to put in place at the best of times. IEP's are sometime a source of concern and frustration. The more informed people are about the IEP process the better the IEP can be. Parents will normally work with teachers to develop a plan to help the students succeed in school. The IEP assists this process by describing the goals the whole team sets for a student during the school year, as well as any special support needed to help achieve them. Here are a number of apps that make managing and collecting data for the IEP Process just that little bit easier.

Ideas for iPads| The Committed Sardine

Ideas for iPads| The Committed Sardine | ipad2learn #iPad #E-Learning #schreiben #lernen #m-learning | Scoop.it
The iPad and other gesture-based tablets have captured the minds and fingers of many in education. Whether it's in pre-K or senior classes, these intuitive devices are making changes to how teaching and learning occurs in the classroom.

The combination of ease of use, cost-effective applications, simple navigation, and user-friendliness, plus a generally lower entry price compared to a full laptop (rather than a netbook), make these the tools of choice for many schools. It's worth noting that for many people there is also a convenience and aesthetic factor, as well.

As schools grasp with these devices, it's great to see people sharing their teaching practice. Here are some sites that I have recently stumbled across that are useful.

1. TCEA - http://www.tcea.org/ipad
A useful list of applications broken down into curriculum areas.

2. Apps in Education – http://appsineducation.blogspot.co.nz/
This site is broken down again into learning areas and has detailed lists of suitable applications.

3. iPad Curriculum - http://www.ipadcurriculum.com/
This is a regularly updated blog on the use of iPads featuring a single app per post.

4. iPad Schools - http://ipadschools.wikispaces.com/home
This is a wiki on the use of iPads—again, detailing apps by learning areas.

5. iPad Multimedia Tools – https://sites.google.com/site/ipadmultimediatools/home
This Google site is focused on the multimedia aspects of iPad use. It looks at the iPad's apps by use rather than by learning area.

6. iPad as… http://edtechteacher.org/index.php/teaching-technology/mobile-technology-apps/ipad-as
This is an excellent post examining the use of the tool rather than the curriculum area.

7. Bridging the Gap – http://bridgingapps.org/
This is a site bridging the gap between applications and disabilities. They have reviewed a number of apps for suitability for special needs students—a very useful site.

Harry Dickens and I wrote the Apps for Learning book with scenarios from different subject areas to examine how the tools could be used from a variety of perspectives.

Implementing iPads isn't exactly a just-add-water proposition.

Below are 4 distinct areas of instruction and instructional design that can help frame the concept of iPad integration. Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Integration.

There is more to the conversation, but rather than overwhelm you (not that you couldn’t handle it), it seemed better to simply start your thinker.

Curriculum is…

Adaptive (less rigid)
Learning pathways, embedded differentiation and personalization, culturally and cognitively responsive tasks and work that honors constructivist thinking and doing over passivity and compliance
Dynamic (less static)
Having constant access to constantly changing information and media requires a curriculum that is equally dynamic
Digital (less physical)
Promoting blogging, collaborative project-planning via apps and cloud-based suites, digital presentations through apps like Prezi, curating of complex digital portfolios, etc.

Over the past few months, iPads have exploded throughout schools and classrooms. Their flexibility, versatility, and mobility make them a phenomenal learning tool. In webinars and blog posts, we have talked about the iPad as....

Reader

Student Response System
Classroom Manager

Organizer
Differentiator
In this section, we take a similar approach as with our Great Tech Tools. In order to help educators integrate iPads effectively, we have compiled a list of apps focused on learning goals consistent with the CRCD framework. While many of these apps have also appeared in our iPads in the Classroom section, this list is driven by specific learning goals that promote critical-thinking, creativity, collaboration, and the creation of student-centric learning environments.

SpeechTree App - A Complete AAC Communication System

SpeechTree App - A Complete AAC Communication System | ipad2learn #iPad #E-Learning #schreiben #lernen #m-learning | Scoop.it

SpeechTree is an iPad only app from IAC Professionals, it was created by Angela Desideri - a certified Speech Language Pathologist and AAC specialist. An interview with Angela can be located at the end of the review.

"SpeechTree is the first & only AAC app that combines a Complete AAC Communication System with an Interactive Learning Program. The combination benefits both beginning and emerging communicators who require a lot of practice, encouragement, instruction, and support to develop their communication skills properly. I rarely get the chance to use an expensive app and believe the cost is warranted, but SpeechTree has proved it’s worth.

For someone who needs start-to-finish help learning and implementing AAC, SpeechTree is very highly recommended."
