iBooks 2 Review | Mac|Life

Apple and education have always gone hand in hand, but Cupertino has taken a bold leap with iBooks 2, a full version update offering zero new features for those of us who graduated from school long ago. But for iPad-toting students, the company’s new digital textbook initiative is a revelation.

LIVE: Apple CEO Tim Cook Speaks!

3:59 PM | Goldman is now asking about the iPad. Fastest product ramp, what is it about that product? No price cut, no storage changes ... what does it say about tablet market?

This 55 million is something no one would have guessed, including us. It took 22 years to sell that many Macs, 5 years for iPods, 3 years for iPhone, a trajectory that's off the charts. Pace of innovation on product off the charts, the ecosystem -- 170,000 apps for iPad -- but the reason it's so large is 1. The iPad stood on the shoulders of all that came before it. App Store in play, iTunes in play, people trained on iPhone, so they knew about multi touch, so much intuitive. I gave to my mother and she knew how to use it like this (snaps). You're using one, my mother uses one, 7 year old nephew using one, I go to Starbucks see them, enterprise, education, in my opinion fastest adoption across a wide range.

What Is the Best Wireless Router for an iPad?

iPad is an amazing device and people owning one will definitely be aware of the its excellent abilities and faster access to Internet. There is no use in having an iPad if the Internet speed is slow. To get this done, you must have a proper router for wireless connections that is especially compatible with your iPad.

Four Mistakes Publishers Make When Bringing Content to Tablets

This is a guest post on TechCrunch.com from Mitch Lazard, the CEO of mobile news reader Taptu. As such he has an interesting experience dealing with media publisher but interestingly he's been working for one himself: CNN.

The way some Media publishers embrace she iPad and new technologies is all wrong, he says, as they miss some of the critical things to have a successful strategy in the mobile/social world where content evolves today. Even if this is seen with a mobile focus, a lot of what he writes is generic and relevant beyond the mobile opportunity. Interestingly he highlights the role of curators as news DJ and as a force some Media Publishers tend to underestimate.

Mark Bernstein: Jobs at Apple: Inside and Out

Everyone saw the focus, the insistence, and the scorn for bozos – for people who were happy enough to get by. What people always missed about Jobs at Apple was the agile mind, able and eager to shift from the inside to the outside and back again.

Persuading a Jury With an iPad and an App

In view of our focus, and the challenges the case presented, we decided to take an entirely different approach — and turn to an Apple iPad for our trial evidence presentation. We would still use a couple of documents blown-up on foam boards, for effect — but we didn't use TrialDirector or bring in an independent IT professional. Everything was managed directly from counsel table with minimal hardware and technology.

Create, Draw and Edit Your Presentations on the iPad with Shared Paper

Shared Paper is an iPad presentation app which is based on a huge scrollable canvas.

"The name, “Shared Paper,” is apt. What you get is a huge zoomable canvas on to which you can draw, write and edit your thoughts and ideas. Then you can share that canvas with other iPad users on the same network."

"Your blank canvas stretches in four directions to each side, but also inwards, into itself. Objects can be hidden inside other objects, revealed when needed. A scale at the top of the screen shows where you are in the wider document – the canvas is finite, but it’s also huge.

You can embed images, add text, change colors and brush sizes, select and move and rotate any object at will. The controls are kept at your fingertips and are easy to learn.

To turn the document into a presentation, you can select preset views of your canvas to display as a slideshow. The slideshow transitions can be simple fades, or a snazzy fly-through that zooms from one place on the canvas to the next."

Completed presentations can be exported as PDFs or as documents or images.

Shared Paper is available in the App Store for $4.99

http://itunes.apple.com/app/shared-paper/id450451819

P.S.: There is also a free version: Shared Paper Lite.

This puts limits on your creating (25 objects in a document, and up to three documents at a time), but also gives people the chance to try the app, or to tune in wirelessly to shared presentations.
