A Great Tool to Help Kids Create Alphabet Books and Build Phonemic awareness ~ EduTech & mLearning

A Great Tool to Help Kids Create Alphabet Books and Build Phonemic awareness ~ EduTech & mLearning | Ipad resources | Scoop.it
Alphabet Organizer  (from Read Write Think) is an excellent interactive web tool and iPad app that you can use with young learners to help them build their phonemic awareness. Students can use it to ’create a calendar-style alphabet chart or letter pages for an alphabet book’. The process is very easy: they simply select letters and provide words starting with those letters. They can also upload pictures to illustrate visual connections between the word and the beginning letter. ‘Older children can take the tool a step further, using the option that allows room for words and notes. It’s ideal for studying vocabulary words or organizing thoughts about a topic. Images can be added into each letter categories, greatly expanding users' ability to make a vibrant alphabet book.’

12 Unexpected Ways to Use LEGO in the Classroom | Edudemic

12 Unexpected Ways to Use LEGO in the Classroom | Edudemic | Ipad resources | Scoop.it
The idea that students can learn something valuable from play isn’t new, or even controversial. A sizeable body of research has been conducted to back up what many teachers already knew to be true.  Fun and learning don’t have to be mutually exclusive, and it really works better for everyone involved when they’re not.

As such, making LEGO Bricks part of your lesson plan can help you teach concepts that students might otherwise find tedious, in a way that doesn’t feel like work to them. Many educators have already been putting this idea to the test with success. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

The legacy of Legos is amazing - so many children had developed concepts and skills through the construction and creativity of Legos. From my perspective, they ABSOLUTELY belong in every classroom - and every home. Play IS Learning.

App Smash - Smashing apps for Modern Foreign Languages

App Smash - Smashing apps for Modern Foreign Languages | Ipad resources | Scoop.it

"Language learning has to be met with engaging and entertaining lesson objectives that include innovative approaches from the teacher. The iPad can be the perfect tool to employ when trying to achieve this high standard. Combining apps to enhance lingual learning can really bring multi-media MFL magic into the classroom. Smashing all sorts of language apps into the Book Creator app is just one way of doing this! I plan to create a ‘School Talk’ language book that translates key school resources and aspects of day-to-day education into French."

Apple TV Settings for the Classroom - Learning in Hand

Apple TV Settings for the Classroom - Learning in Hand | Ipad resources | Scoop.it
If there’s an Apple TV in the classroom, it’s most likely used to mirror teacher and student iPads or MacBooks. There are plenty of other ways to display an iPad on a large screen, and Apple TV is one of the most popular because it has AirPlay. AirPlay is Apple’s technology that will stream a live view of whatever is on an iOS device's screen. This is why Apple TV is so popular. This mirroring ability through AirPlay is built into all iPads (except the first generation iPad) and all newer iPhones and iPod touches.

The $5 computer that can change the world -BGR | Ipad resources | Scoop.it
The world collectively dropped its jaw when the Raspberry Pi was first unveiled. A $35 computer that could be used to power just about anything? Yes, please. Then the even more capable Raspberry Pi 2 came along and earlier models dropped to as low as $20, which is staggering considering the doors that could still be opened by such a capable device.

But now, the unthinkable has happened: The UK-based Raspberry Pi Foundation has unveiled a brand new computer that can be purchased for just $5.

Using Skitch in Kindergarten - The Digital Scoop

Using Skitch in Kindergarten - The Digital Scoop | Ipad resources | Scoop.it
I LOVE the app Skitch (free for Mac, iPhone, and iPad) for many reasons! I can easily use it to annotate any picture or screenshot.  I often use it when creating handouts for teacher training sessions.

Knowing how simple the app is to use, I got to thinking it would be great for the kids use to annotate pictures they take in the classroom.

This lead me to ask a kindergarten teacher in my building if I could come and co-teach an iPad lesson with her using Skitch (thanks, Kari!).

While these are really user-friendly, and also helpful actions, there are still a couple of added approaches available to you to bring your iPad back to life and make it seem like it’s a newer device once more.
