Last month, the Institute of Play released a 160-page whitepaper on successfully designing and implementing video games as classroom assessment tools. It is widely hoped that the Institute's study, along with further research by SRI, will prove conclusively that cognitive skills are significantly improved by playing educational video games.

"When I was at school, I struggled badly with random, un-filed bits of paper, leaky ink cartridges in my Parker Pen and terrible hand writing (as well as chronic laziness and an addiction to Cricket). I’m sure this approach to my organisation affected my school work. If I would have grown up in the iPad age I think things would have been different. The following 5 apps have been tried and tested by me and my students and rank highly as apps which work brilliantly to keep work organised in the cut and thrust of a busy school day."

"The presentation below is created by Karen Bosh who is a K - 8 Technology Instructor. Karen provided some key ideas and app suggestions for teachers on how to use iPad for digital storytelling. Some of the apps she suggested are not free. She has also corroborated her ideas with a set of students project examples involving the use of iPad for digital storytelling. The presentation is a little bit long ( contains 129 slides) but is really worth your time. Have a look and share with your colleagues."
