Podcasting in the English classroom

Lyndsay's curator insight, April 3, 2013 10:12 PM

This link provides a valuable resource for helping students improve their listening and speaking skills. It refers to using the digital technology of podcasting and includes lesson plans and tutorials of how to best use podcasting to benefit students skills. Many of the areas found within the Digital Technologies curriculum (ACARA, 2013) include literacy as a general capability and therefore, this resource would allow students to develop safe digital technology practices as well as improve their digital literacy skills.

Explain Everything

This looks like a great app for recording feedback on students' work using your iPad. Just open a copy of their assignment and start annotating it and adding your feedback as a video and audio recording to send to them. The app isn't free, but at $2.99, it's still affordable.

Developing writing skills: A news report

Developing writing skills: A news report | iPad lessons | Scoop.it

This lesson takes a process approach to developing writing skills. It is staged so that students are guided through the processes of collecting information and deciding how they will structure it within the text before they begin to write. They are then guided through the process of drafting, editing and redrafting the text to produce a final copy.

Instant Opinion Polls in the Classroom

Instant Opinion Polls in the Classroom | iPad lessons | Scoop.it

For a long time now I have been looking for a tool that enables instant polling in the classroom or in the lecture room. I specifically wanted something that; doesn't require registration (especially from the people I'm polling), updates very quickly, works on any platform from computers to mobile devices.

It looks like I have finally found what I've been looking for and best of all it's free. The tool that I have found is Mentimeter and it does all of the above.
