6 Good iPad Apps to Enhance Kids Mathematical Thinking

6 Good iPad Apps to Enhance Kids Mathematical Thinking | iPad learning | Scoop.it
Here is a set of good iPad apps that you can use with students to enhance their mathematical thinking. These apps are meant for young learners and are specifically useful when introducing kids to those rudimentary notions of mathematical computations. The purpose of teaching kids to think mathematically, as detailed in Kaye Stacey's paper, is three folds: First, it will allow kids to conduct mathematical investigations by themselves. Second, it will help them acquire other thinking skills particularly problem-solving and as mathematician Paul Halmos (1980) stated, 'problem solving is the heart of mathematics'. Third, it helps kids get a deeper appreciation of mathematics and use it in their daily and working lives.

What's not to love about this tool? Nothing.... Teacher's of all ages can appreciate the tiresome tradition of late night grade-a-thons. This just might help make quizzes a more pleasant experience. At least for the instructors.

This will include resources from all of the best sources, from Apple’s own stuff to TeachThought to edutopia to MindShift to DMLCentral to Jackie Gerstein and more. We can update it, or make it a wiki to crowdsource the process, or you can add suggestions in the comments below. Great resource for a 1:1 iPad classroom/school. However, this is a great model for any 1:1 setup. You truly need to consider the Teacher/Student/Parent paradigm when deciding on applications that enhance the learning environment. Where there is not workflow vision the people will perish.
