Guide to iMovie on the iPad

Guide to iMovie on the iPad | iPad Learning Apps and Ideas | Scoop.it
I have updated my guide for iMovie on the iPad. iMovie on the iPad is in many ways a significantly better application than its much larger cousin on the Apple Mac.

Rod Murray's insight:

Having used iMovie for iPad, it's a really quick video content creator, much faster than iMovie on a Mac. Easy to learn and create. Kids will love it!

This article explains a comparison of iMovie on the iPad and on the Mac Book. Later to discover that iMovie is better on iPad, it also discusses the application of the iMovie and how its being used on both devices.

Kiera Hamling's curator insight, Today, 4:58 AM

This app is a child friendly layout version of iMovie. The app itself is perfect for the classroom as children can learn quickly how to navigate around and use the app confidently. Possible the best feature for the use in classrooms is the in built trailers! The app allows you to create 12 different Hollywood style trailers all with different styles. You can customise film studio logos, cast names and credits , add and adjust videos and photos and add existing content from your library, or record new footage straight into your trailer.  Both storytelling techniques and persuasion can easily be covered using this app. Trailers for reading books, class stories or even using the trailers as planning for a written story. It really can be used to get the creative juices going within Literacy.  This app is perfect for planning and creating text, drawings and sound files to share online, for example jointly creating a photo story to illustrate a fable or fairy-tale. Students will be able to work with others to create and organise ideas and information using information systems, and share these with known people in safe online environments.

How the SAMR model improves teaching with iPad | learnmakerblog | iPad Learning Apps and Ideas | Scoop.it
There’s a very easy way to make better use of the iPad in class. Simply become more aware of what you’re using the iPad for when teaching. This is where the SAMR model comes in, something I believe all teachers should be familiar with. The SAMR model is a 4 stage framework, illustrated below by the fantastic Sylvia Duckworth, creator of many great sketch notes.

Free Technology for Teachers: Dozens Free iPad App Reviews Arranged by Grade

Free Technology for Teachers: Dozens Free iPad App Reviews Arranged by Grade | iPad Learning Apps and Ideas | Scoop.it
A couple of years ago when I started iPadApps4School.com I did something that I wish I had done when I started FreeTech4Teachers.com. That is I created a structure for categorizing my app reviews according to grade level. I was also smarter about my use of tags. Both of those decisions have made it relatively easy to find things on iPadApps4School.com

If you visit iPadApps4School.com and click on the "free iPad apps" tag in the right-hand column it will pull up all of iPad apps I've reviewed that are free. Below the headline of each review you will see a category tag of "pre-K," "elementary school," "middle school," or "high school." Ten reviews are listed on each page. Below the last review you will see a link to view older posts.

How to record your iPad screen using QuickTime Player on your Mac | iPad Insight

How to record your iPad screen using QuickTime Player on your Mac | iPad Insight | iPad Learning Apps and Ideas | Scoop.it
While I was surfing around the internet the other day, I came across a procedure that allows you to record the screen of your iOS device using QuickTime Player on your Mac.  As someone who could really benefit from this feature for demonstrative purposes, my curiosity was definitely peaked.  Add to that the fact that it is built into every Mac running Yosemite and that it’s completely free, and I knew that some of you, too, would really appreciate knowing how it works.  Here’s a quick tutorial based upon Aaron Douglas’ Blog post on The Dangling Pointer.

Via John Evans
Rod Murray's insight:

The article does not mention that this only works with iOS devices that use Lightning cables i.e. iPad Mini or newer, iPad 4th Gen or newer, iPhone 5 or newer. The cable must be plugged into the Mac for this to work.

Why so many schools fail to get impact from iPad - Innovate My School

Why so many schools fail to get impact from iPad - Innovate My School | iPad Learning Apps and Ideas | Scoop.it

"70% of UK schools are now using mobile devices in the classroom, according to Tablets for Schools. The vast majority of those devices are likely to be iPads, yet how many schools can you name who are standout users of the device? That is to say, how many schools are using the device to deliver true 21st century transformational lessons?

The answer, disappointingly, is very, very few. In the past two years, I’ve worked with over 200 schools across the spectrum of the UK education system. Only a handful remain memorable from what I watched them use iPad for. But what about the likes of ESSA Academy and Cedars School of Excellence, I hear you say! Both have transformed their schools and results through the use of iPad. The answer is far simpler than you’d probably guess. It’s all about the training of staff.

It’s a recurrent theme with all the successful schools using iPad. Look through any interview or press release, and all reference a well thought-through training program as the foundation of their project. In my new venture I’m lucky enough to work with schools on a daily basis to better implement devices while targeting improvements. These are some of the core factors I talk through."
