Flipping the iPad Enabled Classroom (Part 1 of 2)

Flipping the iPad Enabled Classroom (Part 1 of 2) | Information literacy | Scoop.it

"The Flipped Classroom doesn’t necessarily require any special technology in the classroom – but it does require students to be able to consume digital learning content outside of class. One of the factors that propelled the iPad to the level of popularity it enjoys today is that it is a fantastic content consumption device, so it clearly lends itself to flipped learning. But there is so much more that the iPad can do, making it a powerful partner in the flipped classroom."

The 10 Skills Modern Teachers Must Have

The 10 Skills Modern Teachers Must Have | Information literacy | Scoop.it

There’s been a lot of talk about 21st century learners, 21st century teachers, and connected classrooms. There’s a daily influx of new technology into your inbox and your classroom feels woefully behind the times even if you’re flipping your 1:1 iPad classroom that’s already online and part of a MOOC.

What are modern teachers to do with all this jargon and techno-babble being thrown at them all day long?

OneNote now on Mac, free everywhere, and service powered | Office Blogs | Information literacy | Scoop.it

When we started OneNote we set out to revolutionize the way people capture, annotate, and recall all the ideas, thoughts, snippets and plans in their life. As many of you have attested, OneNote is the ultimate extension for your brain, but it’s not complete if it’s not instantly available everywhere. We’ve already made a lot of progress in that direction with our mobile, tablet and online web experiences. But there was still a gap. People frequently asked us for OneNote on Mac, and for more ways to capture content.

OneNote has been the best thing ever for me! I've been using it to curate links, articles and text from the internet or my pc files, and then reorganise and produce new doc to work on by incorporating my notes and remixing them.  I don't even have to think about how to convert pdf files any more. I just take a clip from them and use the 'copy text from picture' button. Helped me organise some of the mess. God sent gift!!!

How to use AirDrop - iOS 7’s most important new feature for teachers - teachingwithipad.org

How to use AirDrop - iOS 7’s most important new feature for teachers - teachingwithipad.org | Information literacy | Scoop.it

"When Apple announced Airdrop this past June, I knew it would be a great feature for teachers with iPads. A common complaint about iPads in the classroom was that it wasn’t necessarily easy to transfer student work in the Camera Roll to the teacher. With no USB connection and no SD card slot, how was a teachersupposed to collect student work? Email would work for small files, but videos were much too large to send. Dropbox could be a solution, but that would require students to set up their own accounts, problematic if they are under a certain age. Enter AirDrop, a seamless and very quick way to transfer files via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections between “nearby” devices."

Via John Evans
Larissa Bonthorne's insight:

This may be an easy way to transfer student work from one device to another, rather than using Dropbox.  It does need iOS 7 to work properly, though.

"An app on its own is like a thinker without thoughts!

This blog chronicles the trials and tribulations of 1:1 iPad deployment in a large secondary school and, as such, covers many positives and negatives. Whilst it is clear that any decisions about iPad usage were based upon the learning intention, it is (perhaps surprisingly) a source of concern that apps played such a significant part in the blog content. It may be the nature of the beast that apps alone form the basis for conversations about new technology in the classroom. However, the success of tablet provision in the classroom is NOT underpinned solely by apps."
