20+ Ways to Integrate iPad in Your PBL Classroom ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | iPad in the Class | Scoop.it

"Are you looking for some inspiration and new ideas on how to integrate iPad in your PBL based classroom? The graphic below from our colleagues in Teachthought is a wonderful start. Project based learning, as we have constantly argued in our previous posts, is a powerful pedagogical approach to learning and teaching. The core tenets underpinning the philosophy of PBL are grounded in socially collaborative and constructionist theories of learning. PBL enhances students learning through engaging them in real-life and authentic learning tasks and when coupled with digital media and technology, PBL can be more empowering to students."

20 iPad Gaming Apps to Boost Kids Critical Thinking Skills ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | iPad in the Class | Scoop.it

"Gaming is an important component of the child's cognitive and emotional growth. In his wonderful book " What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Learning and Literacy. Second Edition: Revised and Updated Edition " http://amzn.to/1bOeA48 James Paul Gee argued for the importance of game play for the learners' developing personalty and the honing of their thinking capacities. Gee analyzed several of the popular video and online games like Sims City, and War of Warcraft, to mention but a few , and found out that the learning design informing these games  are behind their sweeping popularity among gamers in all around the world. Gee further claimed that investing time in playing these games does impinge positively on the learning skills of kids. It, among many other things, help them develop strategic thinking, problem solving, active critical thinking, and meta-level thinking. 38 Of The Best Educational Games For iPad - TeachThought

38 Of The Best Educational Games For iPad - TeachThought | iPad in the Class | Scoop.it

"School is a time in a students life where they are learning as much about how to be students and operate successfully in a school as they are about how to read, write, and think. But oftentimes, the demand for pure academic instruction and practice can fly in the face for a student’s need–at any age–to play, build, interact, explore, and construct their own learning experience.

Issues like these can make mobile technology like tablets a boon to learning, as they can allow individual access to the right app–and the right content, creative opportunity, game, or learning simulation–at the right time. It is the collision of the need for interaction, personalization, creativity, and constant feedback that can make video games powerful tools for learning–and the following 38 games, curated by Sam Gliksman–and excellent place to start."

Free Apps to Support Vocabulary Acquisition by ELLs

Free Apps to Support Vocabulary Acquisition by ELLs | iPad in the Class | Scoop.it

"One of my favorite aspects of integrating technology into instruction is the availability of resources to support students with different learning needs. Students who are struggling can benefit from the excitement and engagement offered by a tool like the iPad. Teachers of English-Language Learners (ELLs) can use technology to promote growth in their students. Developing a strong vocabulary is an important area of focus for ELLs who are building their reading comprehension. Educators use a variety of strategies to grow readers in their classroom, and there are many free iPad apps that support vocabulary acquisition."

10 Steps to a Successful School iPad Program

10 Steps to a Successful School iPad Program | iPad in the Class | Scoop.it

iPads have certainly become a highly desired commodity in education. Apple is reporting that schools are purchasing iPads by a ratio of 2:1 over MacBooks. However, that rush to purchase the latest technologies often precedes the careful planning and preparation that’s crucial to their success as educational tools.

Stated simply, technology alone doesn’t have the capacity to improve education. It needs to be woven into a holistic approach to education that encompasses thorough planning and ongoing review of the skills and competencies required by the rapidly changing society that characterizes life in the 21st century.
