Keep maths fun and interesting.  Many learners are taken to advanced levels well before they're ready for it, struggle and are then put off for life.

Melissa Marshall's curator insight, November 29, 2013 11:27 PM

Some good, simple maths apps here - most are for lower year levels but could prove useful for skill practise and/or differentiation in the classroom.

Edutopia - Redefining the Writing Process with iPads

Edutopia - Redefining the Writing Process with iPads | Tablets in de klas | Scoop.it

"Take a moment to think about how you learned to write. What steps did you go through? What was your process?

Most of us learned the same core set of skills on paper: organize, draft, edit, revise, turn in. Our teachers then marked up what we had handwritten or typed, and returned our writing. From there, maybe it ended up tacked to a bulletin board, stuck on the refrigerator door, stuffed into a notebook, or tossed in the nearest trash can. Let's call this Writing 1.0."

Digital writing is an integral part of the writing process.  Another way to enjoy writing;)

harloff's curator insight, November 28, 2013 4:29 AM

Touch technologies can bring haptics back to the process of writing - thus still beeing digital. We have seen great advances in how we consume content, but less in how we create it.

Writing 2.0, so they say.

The idea of taking notes in a different form rather than linear and adding drawings will appeal to the visual teacher or earner.

How to use AirDrop - iOS 7’s most important new feature for teachers - teachingwithipad.org

How to use AirDrop - iOS 7’s most important new feature for teachers - teachingwithipad.org | Tablets in de klas | Scoop.it

"When Apple announced Airdrop this past June, I knew it would be a great feature for teachers with iPads. A common complaint about iPads in the classroom was that it wasn’t necessarily easy to transfer student work in the Camera Roll to the teacher. With no USB connection and no SD card slot, how was a teachersupposed to collect student work? Email would work for small files, but videos were much too large to send. Dropbox could be a solution, but that would require students to set up their own accounts, problematic if they are under a certain age. Enter AirDrop, a seamless and very quick way to transfer files via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections between “nearby” devices."

Airdrop is such a great feature for collecting student work.

Larissa Bonthorne's curator insight, November 7, 2013 4:01 PM

This may be an easy way to transfer student work from one device to another, rather than using Dropbox.  It does need iOS 7 to work properly, though.

Via Airdrop delen is wel heel gemakkelijk

36 Core Teacher Apps For Inquiry Learning With iPads - TeachThought

36 Core Teacher Apps For Inquiry Learning With iPads - TeachThought | Tablets in de klas | Scoop.it

"The interest in inquiry-based learning seems to ebb and flow based on–well, it’s not clear why it ever ebbs.

In short, it is a student-centered, Constructivist approach to learning that requires critical thinking, and benefits from technology, collaboration, resourcefulness, and other modern learning skills that never seem to fall out of favor themselves.

Regardless, St Oliver Plunkett Primary School has put together two very useful images that can help you populate your iPad–or classroom of iPads–with apps that support both inquiry-based learning (the second image below), and a more general approach to pedagogy based on Apple’s uber-popular tablet (the top image)."

What I like about this idea is the centrality of learning as opposed to the centrality of the device. We've discovered that sharing a device have far-reaching and positive possibilities for networking, interaction, teamwork and collaboration in the formal learning environment. OLPC is an example of a notion that goes the other way - individualism, not to mention, the complexities when trying to enable young learners to focus.
