6 Types of Blended Learning

6 Types of Blended Learning | Ipad Education | Scoop.it

"Blended Learning is not so much an innovation as it is a natural by-product of the digital domain creeping into physical boundaries. As digital and social media become more and more prevalent in the life of learners, it was only a matter of time before learning became “blended” by necessity.

That said, there’s a bit more to Blended and “Hybrid” Learning than throwing in a little digital learning."

The single biggest piece of advice offered by most blended learning pioneers is to have a cohesive vision for how the technology will enhance specific learning goals, how it will ease the burden on teachers, and how it can make both teachers and students more creative learners.

How will reading instruction change when aligned to the Common Core?

How will reading instruction change when aligned to the Common Core? | Ipad Education | Scoop.it

It is exactly this “close reading” that Common Core supporters hope will usher in a new era of reading instruction—one where teachers select grade-appropriate texts for all students; where they have students read and reread those texts—perhaps more times than even makes sense or feels comfortable—to support deep comprehension and analysis; and where they push students to engage in the text itself—in the author’s words, not in how those words make us feel.

How Is Technology Empowering Learners?

How Is Technology Empowering Learners? | Ipad Education | Scoop.it

"In the last 50 years advances in technology have brought about social shifts that change the way we interact, communicate, share information, and learn. The changes in technology have had far-reaching effects on every aspect of society, changing what we know, how we know it, how we make a living, and how we see the world and each other. Yet, in all this change the impact technology has had within schools is limited."

25 Ways To Use Tablets To Enhance The Learning Experience

25 Ways To Use Tablets To Enhance The Learning Experience | Ipad Education | Scoop.it

"When I was a kid, I dreamt about our school desks as computer screens.

How cool would it have been to be able to draw, write, and learn directly onto my own computer? As the years went on, people theorized that laptops would take over the classroom, but the price of these devices was too high for a 1 to 1 ratio. It never quite caught on in lower grade schools. Now, it is the age of the tablet. We have affordable high-powered computers that can provide all sorts of enrichment through an intuitive touch screen interface and the education world is taking notice. More and more classrooms are imagining the curriculum in the context of EACH child having his or her own tablet. Yet, some educators are still skeptical. How can a piece of technology truly enhance the learning process, without causing distraction?

The iPad – What it should and shouldn’t be for Education

The iPad – What it should and shouldn’t be for Education | Ipad Education | Scoop.it

I started the year thinking the iPad was the one stop solution. I’ve come to believe now that a multi device option is preferable. 1:1 iPads would be great in an ideal world but the financial reality for school with substantial investments in other tech already doesn’t make it practical for a complete change. My school already has a lot of laptops and desktops in use. They are used for many valid purposes such as those listed above. It’s not reasonable to think we would replace all our resources with just iPads when there are good things already being done with them.

"Twitter is one of those pieces of technology that people either love or hate. For the haters, it seems like a superfluous, narcissistic, even petty platform through which people who think they are more important than they really are share their most intimate details with the world. For those who love the medium, it is a way of filtering and digesting a vast world of digital information quickly and efficiently. Some even see it as a possible vehicle for changing the world. Others have begun using Twitter in education with positive results."

4 Principals Of Digital Literacy | Ipad Education | Scoop.it

"Literacy is the ability to make sense of something, often generalized as the ability to read and write. In many ways, reading is reading, media is media, but in the same way a play places unique comprehension demands on a reader compared to a poem or a letter, so do digital media compared to classic media forms. In the 21st century, new literacies are emerging and digital media forms allow communication to be more nuanced than ever before."
