Creativity on the Run: 18 Apps that Support the Creative Process - Edutopia

"We do not need to teach creativity, but rather inspire its daily practice. Somewhere along the way, we simply forgot to honor this innate gift and how to access its power. Our role as educators is to encourage learning experiences that increase the ability to recognize and listen to our inner voice"

Google Apps for the iPad - Shake Up Learning | Education Technology | Scoop.it
The following is a list of Google Apps for iOS (from Google, Inc. and third parties). This list is exhaustive and includes several apps that are not on the infographic Guide to Google Apps for the iPad. Some of these have natural classroom integration, and some are more for personal or business use. Some are optimized for both iPad and iPhone, some are only optimized for iPhone. Each app title is linked directly to the App Store so you can click directly from your device to download each app.

Tablet Apps to Engage Students with ELA Skills

Tablet Apps to Engage Students with ELA Skills | Education Technology | Scoop.it
Engaging students in lessons on sentence structure, parts of speech, and punctuation can be a challenge.  MadLibs is not a new product, however their iPad app makes story creation and English Language Arts instruction exciting for students.  Perfect for stations, partner work or a transition activity, MadLibs asks students to plug in different parts of speech to create a story.  It’s a great springboard for conversations on sentence structure and introducing students to adverbs, adjectives, and more.

Melissa Hanson's curator insight, June 9, 1:50 PM

Caitlin: A tablet version of MadLibs would make grammar and practicing parts of speech fun and engaging.  Students can use this app individually or can work with partners, encouraging collaborative learning.  Through this app, students and practice using nouns, adverbs, adjectives, and even punctuation.  Through the fun story format, practicing parts of speech and discussing the ways in which we can use them would be fun.  Students not only get to practice and learn parts of speech but they also get to write stories and creatively engage with grammar. This supports CCSS.ELA.Literacy.L.6.1 which requires demonstration of proper grammar and conventions in English through writing or speaking.  In this instance, students would practice the parts of speech in writing.

App Smash - Smashing apps for Modern Foreign Languages

App Smash - Smashing apps for Modern Foreign Languages | Education Technology | Scoop.it

"Language learning has to be met with engaging and entertaining lesson objectives that include innovative approaches from the teacher. The iPad can be the perfect tool to employ when trying to achieve this high standard. Combining apps to enhance lingual learning can really bring multi-media MFL magic into the classroom. Smashing all sorts of language apps into the Book Creator app is just one way of doing this! I plan to create a ‘School Talk’ language book that translates key school resources and aspects of day-to-day education into French."

5 Critical Mistakes Schools Make With iPads (And How To Correct Them) | Edudemic

5 Critical Mistakes Schools Make With iPads (And How To Correct Them) | Edudemic | Education Technology | Scoop.it

Focusing on iPad-versus.-laptop comparisons stifles the ability to see how the iPad facilitates student-centered learning. iPads are devices meant to compliment computers, not replace them.

So, people who seek equivalent functionality become frustrated, and fail to realize the intrinsic benefits and features of the iPad’s native design.

Instead, schools should focus their energies on what iPads do best to engender active learning. iPads enable students to kinesthetically connect with their work (especially important for young learners). These tactile elements – using fingers to zoom, rotate in, pinch close, or swipe across – as well as increasingly interactive and immersive apps, facilitate hands-on learning.
