Julia Bennett's insight:

This is a video from 60 minutes where they show an interview with Joshua Hood who is an autistic young adult. This video is great as an introduction to learning how great ipads can be from children and adults with autism! This is a way that a person with autism can communicate with the rest of the world! Josh's mother says that Josh was frustrated because he wanted to participate, but he simply couldn't verbally communicate with others. It also took a long time for anyone to figure out what Josh needed or wanted, but after using an apple ipad for a year, Josh speaks through his ipad! You can see how happy it makes Josh to be able to communicate. This is an inspiring video for anyone to watch!

When you think about guinea pigs, you don’t necessarily think of their therapeutic value. Yet within a safe school environment, these little critters go to the head of the class when it comes to helping students with autism improve their social skills.

Autistic children can have a really difficult time communicating. MySocius, I'd guess refers to the term "social". It teaches autistic children to be social with their peers, teachers, parents, and other adults. It's great that the program uses topics of interest of the child to encourage communication.

Communication can be demonstrated in various ways, and this is a great way to incorporate technology as well as communicate different skills.
Andrea Coppinger's comment, May 7, 2013 4:14 PM
This is a really neat idea. It can be extremely frustrating when you know what you want to say, but are not sure how to communicate effectively. Also, sign language is very useful for infants so it can benefit the whole family@
Kari Rose's comment, May 9, 2013 11:36 AM
This is a great idea. I agree with Andrea. It can be pretty difficult when you know that what you want to say isnt coming out the way you had planned. I took a sign language class so i know how beneficial it is to know it in a time of need.

Yes! Caregivers (including educators) do have to keep track of things like medications especially when working with special education, and an application for that would be awesome. There are so many great application ideas to help people, it is amazing.
